New burlesque company shimmys onto Yellowknife stages with a groovy approach. Media Release (02/06/2018) Yellowknife, NT - Sit your cold bones down to experience sizzling funk and soulful beats hot enough to melt a crisp late winter's night. New Yellowknife burlesque company Parkas & Pasties is bringing live music and striptease together to kick off their first season with a bang!

Soulful Bodies features performances from a bevy of local burlesque artists, all set to live soul and funk tunes performed by local group Midnight Soul. The production will feature Vancouver performer Ruthe Ordare, a seasoned burlesque instructor and member of Burlesque Top 50 award winning troupe Virago Nation. YK musical artist Casey Koyczan and Aurora Chorealis director Margo Nightingale join Midnight Soul to create a full bodied sound, bringing the audience everything from 70s soul classics to contemporary R&B jams.

"I'm thrilled that we're bringing a new flavour of burlesque to Yellowknife," says Parkas & Pasties' artistic director Ruby Slickeur. "In my short time in the North, I've been blown away by the sheer talent local performers bring to the stage. I'm hoping Parkas & Pasties can create a number of annual opportunities for these artists to share their work. In collaborating with each other [as burlesque performers] and with other artistic mediums, I see endless creative possibility for Yellowknife's burlesque community."

Along with an immersive evening of burlesque and music, audience members can win door prizes, and VIP tickets will include a swag bag of take-home goodies. Community members can also try their hand at the art of striptease with Ruth Ordare's public workshop KISS (Keep It Simple Showgirl), hosted on the afternoon of Saturday, February 17.

Soulful Bodies hits the Top Knight stage from February 15-17, 2018. General admission tickets are available at Birchwood Coffee Ko for $30, and VIP tables are available online. Tickets go on sale Monday, January 22. Find Parkas & Pasties on Facebook for more information on tickets and Ruthe Ordare's workshop.
