Thanks to dementia awareness advocate and translator, Martina Kaut, the illustrated book that easily explains dementia diseases, Weeds in Nana's Garden, can now be enjoyed by German speaking families. Media Release (05/31/2017) COBOURG, ON - A collaboration between former caregiver, translator and dementia ambassador for the global "Purple Angel Dementia Awareness Campaign", Martina Kaut, and Canadian book creator, Kathryn Harrison, has brought the book Weeds in Nana's Garden to the German market under the title Unkraut in Omi's Garten. In this inspiring story with compelling illustrations, author-illustrator Harrison, uses the garden as a metaphor to effectively explain dementia diseases to her readers.

German language version

Kaut generously donated her time for the translation as she is dedicated to spreading awareness of this disease among all generations! What’s more, for each book sold, $1 will be donated to the Alzheimer Society of Canada – Canada’s leading health charity for people living with Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias.

Dementia diseases affect millions of people globally. Wanting to give more people access to her book, Harrison was thrilled by Kaut’s benevolent donation to translate the book. Comments Harrison, “I am so delighted to make the book available to the many German speaking families around the world since there are few children’s books published on this subject.”

Harrison also released the book in French earlier this year. And there are plans underway to make the book available in Portuguese and Spanish thanks to other translators who have donated their time.

The book, which tells the story of the bond between a grand-daughter and her Nana within a magical garden, was recently awarded a SILVER MEDAL from the UK Based Wishing Shelf Book Awards. After the story, a child-focused Question and Answer section further clarifies the topic.

Harrison, a business professional turned artist, holds an interesting mix of science, marketing and art skills that she layered together to create this captivating work. She also founded Flipturn Publishing to publish the book, enabling her to maximize contributions to the Alzheimer Society of Canada.

The book is available at all major online retailers, and can also be requested at any book store for order from Ingram Book Group, ISBN 978-0-9949467-4-4.
