Winnipeg Folk Festival and City Hall team up for new summer concert series, Folk Fest at 510.

WireService.ca Media Release (05/30/2017) WINNIPEG, MB - The Winnipeg Folk Festival, in conjunction with City Hall, are excited to announce a new summer concert series happening Fridays starting June 2 through August 25. Folk Fest at 510 are free outdoor lunchtime concerts that will run noon to 1:00 PM in the courtyard at City Hall, 510 Main St., and feature some of the best and brightest Manitoban artists who have participated in the Winnipeg Folk Festival's Stingray Young Performers Program.

"Partnering with the Winnipeg Folk Festival to present this new summer concert series was a natural fit," said Michael Jack, Chief Corporate Services Officer for City Hall. "Folk music is a connecter of people and we wanted City Hall staff and the Exchange District and downtown communities to gather to enjoy music in the outdoors on a regular basis."

To kick off this new series on June 2 Carly Dow will be performing, weaving image-rich lyrics with powerful songwriting on clawhammer banjo and guitar. Her voice and music has been compared to the likes of folk-heavyweights Gillian Welsh, Amelia Curran and Abigail Washburn. Catch her playing Folk Fest at 510 before she plays the Winnipeg Folk Festival stages, July 6-9 as part of the main festival lineup.

"Creating opportunities to bring music to the community year-round is a priority of ours," said Lynne Skromeda, Executive Director of the Winnipeg Folk Festival. "We are thrilled to be able to support young artists through this partnership with City Hall while giving people live music to experience."
