Prequel Expands The Boys Franchise With Return of Jensen Ackles and Aya Cash
Prime Video has released the first official teaser for Vought Rising, a new prequel series set in the universe of the global hit franchise The Boys, as the streaming platform continues to expand one of its most successful original properties.
The company unveiled the teaser on Thursday, offering audiences an early look at the upcoming series, which is scheduled to premiere exclusively on Prime Video in 2027. The production marks the latest addition to The Boys franchise, which has become one of the platform’s flagship entertainment brands worldwide.
Set in the 1950s, Vought Rising will explore the origins of Vought International, the powerful corporation at the centre of the superhero satire franchise. Prime Video described the teaser as “an electrifying first glimpse” into the next chapter of the expanding series universe.
The prequel aims to deepen the mythology behind Vought International, a fictional conglomerate that has played a central role throughout The Boys. By shifting the timeline decades earlier, the series is expected to examine the foundation and early evolution of the company within a darker, retro-inspired setting.
Returning Cast Members Lead New Chapter
The series will star Jensen Ackles and Aya Cash, both of whom appeared in earlier installments of The Boys universe. In addition to their on-screen roles, the pair will also serve as producers on the project.
Prime Video confirmed that the cast will also include Mason Dye, Will Hochman, KiKi Layne, Jorden Myrie, Nicolo Pasetti, Elizabeth Posey, Ricky Staffieri, and Brian J. Smith.
Paul Grellong has been named showrunner and executive producer for the series. A large production team tied to the broader The Boys franchise will also return as executive producers, including Eric Kripke, Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg, James Weaver, Neal H. Moritz, Pavun Shetty, Ori Marmur, Ken Levin, Jason Netter, Garth Ennis, Darick Robertson, Michaela Starr, and Jim Barnes.
The production is being developed by Sony Pictures Television and Amazon MGM Studios in association with Kripke Enterprises, Point Grey Pictures, and Original Film.
Franchise Continues Global Expansion
The launch of Vought Rising underscores Amazon’s ongoing investment in franchise-driven streaming content as competition intensifies across the global entertainment sector.
The Boys has become one of Prime Video’s most commercially successful original series since its debut, earning multiple Emmy Award nominations and attracting a large international audience. The franchise has also expanded beyond the main series through spin-offs and additional projects aimed at broadening the fictional universe.
Prime Video said all series within The Boys universe are available exclusively through the platform in more than 240 countries and territories.
Industry analysts continue to view established franchises as a key growth driver for streaming services seeking to retain subscribers and strengthen audience engagement. Expanding recognizable intellectual property has become an increasingly common strategy among major media and technology companies competing for viewer attention.
Prime Video Strengthens Entertainment Portfolio
The teaser release also comes as Prime Video continues to broaden its entertainment offering globally, combining original productions with licensed programming, sports broadcasting, and subscription channel partnerships.
According to the company, Prime Video provides access to a wide range of programming, including Amazon MGM Studios productions such as The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, Fallout, Reacher, and The Boys.
In Canada, the platform also offers live sports programming, including Prime Monday Night Hockey, alongside channel subscriptions featuring Sportsnet, TSN, Paramount+, Apple TV+, Crave, STARZ, AMC+, BritBox, and STACKTV.
The streaming service is available across thousands of devices and operates as part of Amazon’s broader Prime membership ecosystem, while also offering standalone rental and purchase options through the Prime Video Store.
With Vought Rising, Prime Video appears poised to further capitalize on the enduring popularity of The Boys franchise while expanding its long-term pipeline of premium scripted content for international audiences.
