Media Release: City of Prince Albert Offers Regional Solution for Municipal Purchasing

System reduces duplication and streamlines services for participating cities and suppliers. Media Release (06/06/2017) Prince Albert, SK - The City of Prince Albert is spearheading a regional approach to municipal purchasing which will reduce duplication and streamline purchasing for participating municipalities. VendorPanel is an Australian based purchasing software that allows suppliers to register with the City for the purchase of various goods and services. Regional access means that other Saskatchewan communities will have access to Prince Albert's list, which will save time and also allow cities and towns access to more competitive bidding.

Cities purchase a wide variety of goods and services. Anything from light bulbs, to computers, to equipment and vehicles," said Mike Lytle, Purchasing Manager for the City of Prince Albert. "Gathering a database of suppliers takes considerable time and research. With this system, the City has already invested in sourcing a comprehensive and reliable list. By opening it up regionally, other municipalities can gain access to that database and a more competitive bidding process."

To get on board, each City pays a flat rate of $3500/year. To date, Shellbrook, Rostern, Lanigan, Birch Hills and Macklin have signed on. The fees paid will go toward the annual licensing fee for the software. There are no costs to becoming a registered supplier. There are approximately 70 suppliers registered to-date with more signing on as product groups are identified. "Christopherson Industrial Supplies is a local supplier that has reported benefits to using the system," added Lytle. "Some of the benefits to suppliers include a process that is more convenient and efficient overall because of the centralized database that records supplier lists, quote requests, responses and reporting."

Suppliers and any towns or cities interested in getting involved are encouraged to contact Mike Lytle at (306) 953-4352.
