Ottawa’s Canada Day celebrations were scaled back on Tuesday after federal officials cancelled the National Canada Day Evening Show and the accompanying fireworks display due to severe weather conditions and concerns about public safety.
The decision, announced by Canadian Heritage, brought an early end to the capital’s planned festivities marking the 159th anniversary of Confederation. Organizers cited extreme weather and site conditions as key factors behind the cancellation.
“In the interest of public safety and due to extreme weather and the condition of the site, we unfortunately have made the difficult decision to cancel the National Canada Day Evening Show. The fireworks display has also been cancelled.
This decision has not been made lightly. The safety of the public, the performers, the volunteers, and the crews remains our top priority.
