BritBox is expanding its Canadian fall programming lineup with a new contemporary adaptation of Agatha Christie’s Tommy & Tuppence, alongside returning crime dramas including Ludwig, Death Valley, Time and Blue Lights. The streaming service will also use September to highlight Christie’s legacy through a collection spanning classic films and newer television adaptations.
Agatha Christie’s Tommy & Tuppence premieres Sept. 15, coinciding with the mystery writer’s birthday, and will serve as the centrepiece of BritBox’s “Eras of Agatha Christie” programming initiative.
‘Tommy & Tuppence’ Leads BritBox Fall Schedule
The six-episode Agatha Christie’s Tommy & Tuppence stars Antonia Thomas as Tuppence and Josh Dylan as Tommy, with Imelda Staunton also appearing in the series.
BritBox describes the production as the first contemporary English-language television series adaptation of Christie’s detective duo. The show updates the setting while retaining the playful romance, comedy and crime-solving dynamic associated with the characters.
Two 45-minute episodes will be released on Sept. 15, followed by weekly installments.
The series will also be included in BritBox’s “Secrets & Spies” collection, one of several themed Christie categories planned for September.
‘Eras of Agatha Christie’ Combines Classic and Modern Mysteries
The month-long Christie initiative will bring together established series including Marple and Poirot with more recent adaptations such as Why Didn’t They Ask Evans? (2022), Murder Is Easy (2023) and Towards Zero (2025).
BritBox will organize programming into weekly collections titled “A Taste for Poison,” “Secrets & Spies,” “Destination: Murder,” “Murders in the Village” and “Her Darker Side.”
Several older Christie films will arrive or return Sept. 15, including Murder Most Foul, Murder She Said, The Alphabet Murders and Murder at the Gallop.
New-to-BritBox additions include the 1983 version of A Caribbean Mystery, Murder Ahoy, the 1982 adaptation of Murder Is Easy and 1985’s Thirteen at Dinner.
‘Ludwig’ and ‘Death Valley’ Return With Second Seasons
BritBox will continue its investment in crime and mystery programming later in the fall.
Season 2 of Ludwig receives its North American premiere Oct. 13. David Mitchell returns as John “Ludwig” Taylor, a puzzle expert who is now officially working as a police consultant investigating seemingly impossible crimes.
Although Taylor no longer has to impersonate his identical twin, James remains missing. His position with the police prevents him from using departmental resources to investigate the disappearance, setting up another mystery running alongside the season’s individual cases.
Death Valley returns Nov. 17 with six new 45-minute episodes. Timothy Spall and Gwyneth Keyworth reprise their roles as John and Janie, whose successful record solving murders has resulted in new professional responsibilities.
David Tennant Joins ‘Time’ Season 3
BritBox has also confirmed the third season of Time for a forthcoming North American premiere.
The three-part season stars Siobhan Finneran as prison chaplain Marie-Louise and David Tennant as veteran prison officer Bailey. Their characters clash after a tragedy inside a young offender institution, while teenage inmates Peter and James navigate their first months in custody.
A release date has not yet been announced.
Blue Lights will similarly return for a six-episode fourth season. The Northern Ireland police drama will follow Grace, Tommy and Annie as limited resources, an ongoing drug pipeline and rising anti-immigration violence put additional pressure on Blackthorn Station.
Canadian Subscribers Get ‘Call the Midwife’ Season 15
BritBox’s September lineup also includes programming specifically relevant to its Canadian audience.
Season 15 of Call the Midwife receives its Canadian premiere Sept. 23 as a BritBox exclusive, with eight 60-minute episodes scheduled for weekly release.
Showtrial Season 1, meanwhile, arrives Sept. 3 and is listed as new to Canada. Its second season follows Sept. 24 with a North American premiere.
The service will add the first three seasons of Scottish drama Monarch of the Glen on Sept. 9. All episodes across those seasons will become available simultaneously.
Other September additions include Cooper and Fry on Sept. 10 and Great Estates From Above on Sept. 16.
BritBox Extends Programming Beyond Streaming Series
BritBox is also highlighting On the Box: The BritBox Podcast around International Podcast Day on Sept. 30. All 20 episodes are available, featuring hosts Edith Bowman and Michelle Collins in conversations with British television figures including Hugh Bonneville, Ruth Jones, Brenda Blethyn, Sally Wainwright and Tom Ellis.
The fall slate reinforces BritBox’s focus on British crime, mystery and period programming for Canadian and broader North American audiences. With Tommy & Tuppence anchoring September, followed by returning titles including Ludwig and Death Valley, the service is using both established literary properties and newer original productions to shape its fall 2026 schedule.
