Press Release: Unique Alberta Entryway Launches Custom Exterior Door Product

Bookmark and Share

(WINNIPEG, Manitoba) November 22, 2010 – A project that started out as a custom exterior door for an Alberta home has blossomed into a unique architectural element that few other manufacturers supply.

Standard residential exterior doors offer a height of 6’8” and a width of 2’6” to 2’8”. When builders, designers or architects are looking for a wider door model for their project, the height of the door increases to 8’ to provide the same door dimensions. The JELD-WEN Custom Wood and Aurora Fiberglass exterior door collections allow the creation of a door with a standard industry height, but with a width of 3’6”.

This design element works perfectly when renovating an existing entryway or adding wheelchair accessibility to a building. Previously, you could only go wider if you had enough clearance for the height. Now you can enhance design plans with a non-traditional element unique to the JELD-WEN custom manufacturing process.

“With a lot of renovations, you’re limited in the products you can use,” says Sante Cigana, Vice President of JELD-WEN sCanada. “These collections allow you to configure the look, material and size of your exterior door in an almost limitless amount of ways.”

The wood and fiberglass door collections also provide a selection of customizable decorative glass insert and grille options to complement the existing look of your project. Specific collection details and CAD drawings are available to builders, designers and architects on the JELD-WEN resource site

JELD-WEN Windows and Doors was founded in 1960 and currently employs over 1,200 Canadians. In 2003, JELD-WEN consolidated their 27 brands under a single product identity. It is now one of the largest manufacturers of windows and doors with locations in 22 countries and more than 12,000 employees worldwide. Learn more at
