The Canadian Hero Fund proudly welcomes Lieutenant-General Andrew Leslie and Matthew Bassett as its newest Honorary Patrons. They are the latest accomplished Canadians to lend their support to the student-based volunteer organization that raises funds and awareness for military families. Lieutenant-General Leslie currently serves as the Chief of Transformation of the Canadian Forces and is the former Chief of the Land Staff.

“All Canadians are members of our national collective, and all of us contribute to our society in different ways," wrote Lieutenant-General Leslie, "the Hero Fund seeks to act as one of several charitable conduits to help you help those who have served.”

Matthew Bassett is editor-in-chief of ARGYLE, a lifestyle quarterly magazine, and publisher Women of Influence magazine, a custom publication targeted at, and dedicated to, the advancement of women in business. Mr. Bassett is a board member of the Good Shepherd Ministries, and sponsors a variety of community organizations and charities such as the Sunnybrook Foundation, Make-A-Wish Foundation, YWCA, the Royal Ontario Museum, Art Gallery of Ontario, and the Toronto International Film Festival. Recently he was appointed to the board of the Heart & Stroke Centre for Stroke Recovery.

"I am thrilled to be a part of the Canadian Hero Fund. It is such an honour to be able to help our Canadian Soldiers and veterans, who sacrifice so much for the good of our nation."

These men join a distinguished list that also includes, among others, Order of Canada recipient Preston Manning; former Ambassador to the United States, Michael Wilson; and former Minister of Defence, Bill Graham.
