Independent Living Canada (IL Canada) Begins Promoting Annual Awareness Campaign leading up to Independent Living across Canada Day June 5th, by Launching a Digital Campaign Celebrating 150 Stories of Canadians Living with Disabilities.

Campaign Link: Press Release (05/23/2017) OTTAWA, ON - IL Canada and its network community of 25 Independent Living Centres across Canada are pleased to fully support Minister Qualtroughs' recent announcement of celebrating National AccessAbility Week from May 28th to June 3rd, 2017.

"An inclusive Canada is one where all Canadians can participate and have an equal opportunity to succeed. We've made great strides in promoting inclusion for Canadians with disabilities, but there is still much work to do", says Minister Qualtrough, Minister of Sport and Persons with Disabilities.

"We must work together to continue our march towards an Accessible Canada. This announcement encourages all of us, and certainly adds momentum to our June 5th celebrations across Canada", says Diane Kreuger, IL Canada Board Chair. "IL Canada is ready, willing and able to help make the Minister's dream a reality, as we launch our Celebrating 150 Stories Digital Campaign leading up to our annual Independent Living across Canada Day June 5th, 2017, and Canada's 150th".

"There is no better time than now for us to share with everyone who we are as Canadians", says Roger Albert, IL Canada National Director. "We want to be and are part of this amazing country's celebration. In this spirit, Canadians with disabilities offer Canada 150 Stories of empowerment, advocacy, employment and personal challenges. We believe that by reading our personal stories, you will find much in common with us and continue to include all of us a bit more each and every day, at all fronts".

The Board, the National Director and the Executive Directors of our 25 Centre across the country are pleased and thrilled to announce that they will be opening their doors very wide on Monday, June 5th 2017. We are ready to show Canadians diversity is our strength, with a special day planned for all. So we invite all public, media and government representatives to take time on June 5th and visit a local IL Centre in your area and help us spread these stories to all Canadians so they can take advantage of the support and services our IL Centres offer.

Please contact your local IL Centre for specifics and availability.

Founded 30 years ago, Independent Living Canada (IL Canada) is a national umbrella organization, representing and coordinating a network of 25 Independent Living Centres at the national level.
