Stirred by her mother's dementia, artist Kathryn Harrison introduces the picture book, Des mauvaises herbes dans le jardin de Mamie, to explain dementia diseases to French speaking families while supporting the Alzheimer Society of Canada. Press Release (01/25/2017) COBOURG, ON - Weeds in Nana's Garden, a best-selling children's book, created to improve the lives of those touched by dementia, is now offered in the French language under the title, Des mauvaises herbes dans le jardin de Mamie. In this inspiring story with fascinating illustrations, author-illustrator Kathryn Harrison uses the garden as a metaphor to effectively explain dementia diseases to her readers.

What's more, for each book sold, $1 will be donated to the Alzheimer Society of Canada - Canada's leading health charity for people living with Alzheimer's disease and other dementias.

Dementia diseases affect millions of people globally. Wanting to give more people access to her book, Harrison has launched the French version. Comments Harrison, "I simply had to make the book available for the many French speaking families around the world since there are very few French children's books published on this subject." Anne Bricaud, from Montreal, translated the book for Harrison. There are also plans underway to make the book available in German, Portuguese and Spanish.

The book has received dozens of 5-star reviews and tells the story of the bond between a grand-daughter and her Nana within a magical garden. After the story, a child-focused Question and Answer section further clarifies the topic.

Harrison, a business professional turned artist, holds an interesting mix of science, marketing and art skills that she layered together to create this captivating work. She also founded Flipturn Publishing to publish the book, enabling her to maximize contributions to the Alzheimer Society of Canada.
