Downtown London to host two-day celebration highlighting culture, community and Canadian heritage
The London Heritage Council is preparing to welcome thousands of residents and visitors to downtown London later this month as the organization launches Night Market London and Canada Day London, two large-scale public events tied to the city’s bicentennial celebrations.
Set to take place on June 30 and July 1 at Dundas Place and Talbot Street in London, Ontario, the events are expected to showcase the city’s cultural diversity, local businesses and community spirit through live entertainment, food, artisan markets and family programming.
Organizers say the celebrations are designed to bring together people of all ages while reflecting on London’s shared history and future as the city marks 200 years since its founding.
“Londoners and visitors of all ages can once again enjoy free activities and entertainment during London’s ultimate family-friendly event weekend,” the release stated. “Celebrate the vibrant mosaic of our community at Night Market London, then join us as we reflect on our shared history and celebrate Canada Day together.”
Night Market London returns for eighth year
Night Market London will begin festivities on Tuesday, June 30, running from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. The event, now in its eighth year, has evolved into one of downtown London’s signature summer gatherings.
Organized by the London Heritage Council since its inception, the market transforms the city core into an open-air festival featuring local performers, independent businesses and interactive activities.
Attendees can expect live performances from musicians and street entertainers, along with food and beverage offerings representing London’s diverse culinary landscape. Artisan booths and small business vendors will also line the downtown corridor, offering products and experiences aimed at engaging families and visitors alike.
Organizers described the evening as “a high-energy, inclusive celebration that brings our community together under the stars on the eve of Canada Day.”
The event has increasingly become a platform for local entrepreneurs, artists and performers, contributing to economic activity in the downtown core while reinforcing London’s growing reputation as a regional cultural destination.
Canada Day London marks decade under London Heritage Council leadership
Canada Day celebrations will continue on Wednesday, July 1, with programming scheduled from noon until 11 p.m.
This year marks the 10th consecutive year that the London Heritage Council has organized the city’s official Canada Day festivities. The organization said the event aims to recognize both Canada’s diversity and the historical contributions of communities that have shaped the country.
“The London Heritage Council is proud to continue organizing Canada Day London—the city’s Canada Day celebration—for the 10th consecutive year,” the release stated.
According to organizers, the event will serve as a focal point for London’s bicentennial commemorations, encouraging residents to reflect on the city’s history while promoting inclusivity and shared heritage.
“Canada Day London honours those who have come before us, acknowledging their legacies and contributions to the society we now enjoy,” the release noted. “In this milestone year, serving as a focus for the community’s bicentennial celebration, Canada Day London offers a space to reflect on our history and commit to mutual respect and shared heritage.”
Programming throughout the day will include live entertainment representing a range of cultural traditions, street performances, food trucks, local vendors and artisan displays. Families will also have access to a dedicated Kids Zone featuring activities and performances geared toward younger audiences.
Federal support backs Canada Day programming
The London Heritage Council confirmed that the 2026 Canada Day celebrations received support through the Government of Canada’s Celebrate Canada grant program.
“This project has been made possible in part by the Government of Canada,” the release stated. “As part of the Celebrate Canada grant program, funding was provided to support Canada Day London 2026.”
Media opportunities, including interviews and photography access, will be available during both event days. Organizers have also advised media representatives attending the Canada Day opening ceremony to arrive 15 minutes before the scheduled start time.
Parking for attendees and media will be available at Covent Garden Market throughout the event weekend.
The London Heritage Council said its broader mission remains focused on supporting the city’s heritage sector and advocating for the importance of cultural and heritage institutions across Canada.
“The London Heritage Council (LHC) is uniquely positioned within the community, supporting London’s heritage sector by advocating for the critical role that cultural and heritage institutions play in our cities, provinces, and across the country.”
