Alberta Heavy Rock Band Builds Momentum Toward Self-Titled Album Launch in August 2026
Edmonton-based heavy rock band Famous Strangers has released its latest single, “Ghosts of Men,” offering fans another preview of the group’s forthcoming self-titled debut album scheduled for release on August 21, 2026.
The track arrives as the band continues to build momentum following a series of singles and music videos released throughout 2024 and 2025. Co-produced with Phil Anderson, mixed by Joel Wanasek, and mastered by Maor Appelbaum, the album represents the band’s first full-length studio project after years of development within Alberta’s rock scene.
“Ghosts of Men” carries a deeply personal undertone for the band and reflects the emotional intensity that has become central to Famous Strangers’ sound. According to the group, the song originated years ago when founding members Braden Sustrik, Brian Jolly — also known as “Beej” Beejerson — and Jeff Kittlitz first began collaborating musically. The unfinished concept was later revived and significantly rewritten shortly before entering the recording studio.
A Song Reworked Into One of the Album’s Most Personal Tracks
The band said the song underwent rapid development in the final days before recording, eventually evolving into one of the strongest statements on the album.
“Famous Strangers tear down the double standard with ‘Ghosts of Men,’ a track that hits as hard as the conversation it starts. Bold, unapologetic, and impossible to ignore,” adds Kiernan
The accompanying music video takes a more satirical approach to the track’s emotional themes, presenting a tongue-in-cheek portrayal of the confusion and frustration associated with being ghosted. The visual interpretation contrasts the song’s vulnerability with exaggerated comedic moments designed to connect with audiences on both emotional and entertainment levels.
The single is now available on streaming platforms, with the band also encouraging listeners to add the track to Spotify playlists as anticipation builds toward the full album launch later this summer.
Self-Titled Debut Marks Major Milestone for the Edmonton Rock Group
The upcoming album marks a significant milestone for Famous Strangers, whose members collectively bring decades of experience from Alberta’s independent music community. The project blends elements of classic heavy rock, grunge-inspired riffs, atmospheric arrangements, and emotionally driven songwriting.
The band cites a broad range of influences while developing a sound characterized as unpredictable, moody, haunting, and rooted in old-school heavy rock traditions with a modern edge.
The formation of Famous Strangers itself developed organically over several years. Guitarist Jeff Kittlitz and drummer Beej had accumulated original material through years of informal collaboration, while bassist Braden Sustrik joined the fold around 2018 after previous musical projects with Beej. The lineup was completed when vocalist Amanda Kiernan joined the band in 2023.
“The connection was undeniable, the energy and vibe were pure magic. The lyrics poured out of me as if they’d been waiting for this exact moment,” says Kiernan.
Themes of Self-Worth and Emotional Growth Drive the Record
According to the band, the self-titled album centres on themes of self-worth, resilience, growth, and emotional recovery. Drawing heavily from personal experiences, the record explores the process of overcoming limitations and reclaiming confidence.
Musically, the album moves across a broad emotional and stylistic spectrum. Tracks include the high-energy opener “Fire Inside,” the punk-inspired “Far Away from Home,” described as an alien-abduction-themed romp, and the blues-infused “Rain,” which leans into vulnerability and introspection.
The band said the project embraces creative freedom and avoids strict adherence to a single genre, allowing each song to develop according to its emotional tone and narrative focus.
Famous Strangers has drawn comparisons to established hard rock and alternative metal acts including Halestorm, Nothing More, Sevendust, Godsmack, Evanescence, Butcher Babies, and Bad Omens.
Western Canadian Tour and Album Release Shows Announced
In support of the album release, the band has confirmed a series of live performances across Western Canada throughout the summer.
Upcoming appearances include Decimate MetalFest in Millet, Alberta on June 27, followed by shows in Lethbridge and Calgary in early July. The group will also embark on a Western Canadian tour running from August 6 through August 20.
Famous Strangers will officially celebrate the release of the self-titled album with two Edmonton performances scheduled for August 21 at the Rec Room and August 22 at Temple Starlite.
The band has also confirmed that album artwork and the official track listing will be revealed in the coming weeks ahead of the release date.
