The City of Brantford is moving forward with a proposed municipal boundary adjustment that would transfer a portion of land from the neighboring County of Brant into the city’s jurisdiction. Residents and interested organizations will have an opportunity to provide feedback during a statutory public meeting later this month, as required under Section 173(3) of Ontario’s Municipal Act, 2001.
Brantford and County of Brant Revise Boundary Adjustment Proposal
In May 2026, the City of Brantford and the County of Brant signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) outlining a proposed transfer of land from the county to the city. The original proposal covered approximately 1,317 acres.
Following public consultation held throughout May and June, officials revised the plan in response to community feedback. Both Brantford City Council and County of Brant Council have now approved a restructuring proposal that removes 469 acres of agricultural land from the original transfer area.
Updated Transfer Area Reduced to 848 Acres
Under the revised proposal, the municipal boundary adjustment would now involve 848 acres instead of the initially proposed 1,317 acres. City officials say the changes reflect input received during the public engagement process while refining the proposed restructuring plan.
The revised boundary map identifies the updated transfer area that would become part of the City of Brantford if the proposal receives final approval.
Public Meeting Scheduled for July 27
Residents, property owners, businesses, and community organizations are invited to attend a statutory public meeting where the proposal will be formally considered.
