Irish author and musician releases latest collection examining purpose, faith, and the human experience
DUBLIN — Irish author, poet and musician Patrick Gately has released An Angel’s Sunrise, a new collection of poetry and verse that explores spirituality, personal reflection, and the unseen influences that shape human lives.
Published under the imprint of The Manuscript Publisher, the collection examines themes surrounding purpose, mortality, inner growth, and humanity’s search for meaning. The release marks Gately’s latest contribution to contemporary reflective poetry, building on the foundation established through his earlier Moments series.
Themes of spirituality and personal growth shape the collection
At the centre of An Angel’s Sunrise is the idea that invisible forces and spiritual guidance help direct individual journeys through life. Through poetry and reflective prose, Gately considers questions that have long occupied philosophers, writers and theologians: why people are here, what lessons life offers, and how individuals navigate hardship and uncertainty.
The collection also reflects on the varied ways people define success and purpose. According to the release, many people spend their lives pursuing material achievements, family responsibilities, hobbies, and other personal ambitions.
“I am not saying that these things are wrong. They just need to be put into perspective because at the end of life, we cannot bring any of these things with us.”
The work presents a broader philosophical argument that material pursuits alone cannot fully explain the human experience. Instead, Gately suggests that spiritual awareness and personal understanding are equally important components of life.
Exploration of faith and the concept of the soul
Several pieces in the collection draw directly from Gately’s spiritual beliefs and his reflections on mortality, resilience, and the enduring nature of the soul. The poems consider both the hardships people encounter and the lessons gained while enduring them.
Questions concerning where humanity comes from, where people go after death, and why individuals experience suffering are recurring themes throughout the work. Nature imagery and descriptive passages are used to frame these reflections, creating a contemplative tone across the collection.
“As an Eckist, I now realise that we all travel the road back to God at our own pace. Sometimes we may stray off the road, for various reasons but eventually, we get back on track and proceed onwards. Soul is eternal; only the body dies and decays.”
The release further suggests that while material needs remain part of everyday existence, the “inner self” ultimately carries greater importance. Gately argues that balance between the spiritual and physical worlds can help make life’s challenges easier to understand and navigate.
Latest publication continues Gately’s growing literary catalogue
An Angel’s Sunrise is available online in both print and e-book editions alongside Gately’s earlier published works. The author previously released the Moments series in 2024, consisting of Moments in Life and Moments in Time, which were published simultaneously.
Beyond writing, Gately has worked as a musician and spent much of his professional life as an electrician before retiring. He currently resides in Dublin.
The new release also arrives as Gately continues work on his first full-length novel, currently operating under the working title John Beton Meets the Leprechauns. According to the release, the novel is expected to be published later in 2026, subject to final production timelines.
