Invest in Musicfest Night aims to support free live concerts as festival welcomes one of its most popular returning acts
PETERBOROUGH, Ont. — Peterborough Musicfest is set to welcome one of its most popular returning performers this week as Dwayne Gretzky takes the stage on Wednesday, July 29, bringing its signature mix of classic hits and crowd-pleasing performances back to Del Crary Park.
The Canadian party band will make its sixth appearance at the long-running summer festival, continuing a tradition that has made its concerts among the most anticipated events of the Musicfest season. Known for performing an expansive catalogue of songs spanning five decades, Dwayne Gretzky has built a reputation for energetic live shows that blend classic rock, pop favourites and contemporary chart-topping music.
The performance follows a busy weekend for Peterborough Musicfest and is expected to draw one of the largest crowds of the summer as residents and visitors gather along the city’s waterfront for another evening of free live entertainment.
Invest in Musicfest campaign highlights community support
This year’s concert will also serve as Invest in Musicfest Night, an initiative encouraging attendees to support the festival’s mission of providing free live music to the community.
Festival organizers will accept donations throughout the evening, with proceeds helping sustain future programming and ensure that concerts remain free for audiences. Organizers say community support has played a key role in maintaining the event over nearly four decades.

Peterborough Musicfest has grown into one of Ontario’s longest-running free outdoor concert series, attracting thousands of visitors each season while showcasing both established Canadian performers and emerging local talent.
Multiple ways for visitors to contribute
Beyond direct donations, attendees will have several opportunities to support the festival during the evening.
Concertgoers can purchase official Peterborough Musicfest merchandise, participate in the festival’s 50/50 raffle, or buy a Diner’s Book, with proceeds from each initiative helping fund free concerts throughout the remainder of the season.
Organizers say these fundraising efforts are an important complement to the financial support provided by sponsors, donors and community partners that make the annual concert series possible.
Local performer opens the evening
The night’s entertainment will begin at 6:30 p.m. with local musician JJ Thompson, who will perform on the Future Sound Series presented by Cogeco stage.
Thompson is widely recognized in the Peterborough music scene as the frontman of JJ and the Pillars, and is known for combining heartfelt songwriting with engaging live performances. His appearance continues the festival’s commitment to showcasing regional artists alongside nationally recognized acts.
Following the opening performance, audiences will have time to explore the festival grounds before Dwayne Gretzky takes the Fred Anderson Stage at 8:00 p.m.
