Increased lesson capacity and seasonal transition plans highlight city’s summer recreation strategy
PRINCE ALBERT, Sask. — The City of Prince Albert will open the Kinsmen Water Park for the 2026 summer season on June 5, marking the start of an expanded aquatic programming schedule aimed at improving access and capacity for residents.
The seasonal launch comes as the city prepares to temporarily close the Lake Country Co-op Leisure Centre – Aquatics facility later in June for scheduled maintenance and warranty work, creating a coordinated transition between indoor and outdoor aquatic services.
City officials say the approach is designed to maintain continuity of service while increasing participation opportunities during the peak summer months.
Transition period to affect facility schedules
The Lake Country Co-op Leisure Centre – Aquatics facility will continue operating until June 19, after which it will shut down temporarily to accommodate planned upgrades. During the overlap period between June 5 and June 19, both facilities will operate on adjusted schedules.
Following the closure of the indoor aquatic centre, Kinsmen Water Park will shift to its full summer schedule, serving as the city’s primary aquatic venue for the remainder of the season.
Schedules for both facilities during the transition period are expected to be released closer to the opening date, according to the city.
Expanded swimming lessons reflect growing demand
A key component of the city’s summer recreation plan is a significant increase in swimming lesson capacity. For Summer 2026, the city will offer 780 lesson spots, up from the previous year.
Municipal officials say the expansion reflects ongoing efforts to improve access to aquatic programming and respond to growing demand among residents, particularly families seeking summer activities.
Registration for lessons will follow a staggered schedule, beginning with residents before opening to the general public.

Season end set for late August
The Kinsmen Water Park will operate through the summer, with its final day of regular operations scheduled for August 23.
The city encourages residents to monitor its official website for updates on schedules, programming, and registration details as the season approaches.
Focus on accessibility and service continuity
The coordinated opening of the outdoor water park alongside the temporary closure of the indoor aquatic facility reflects a broader municipal strategy to balance infrastructure maintenance with service delivery.
By increasing lesson capacity and maintaining access through the summer, the City of Prince Albert aims to ensure residents continue to have opportunities for recreation, skill development, and community engagement.
Further details, including finalized schedules and program updates, will be released in the coming weeks.
