VICTORIA, B.C. — Triathlon Canada has appointed Rachel Macatee as its new chief executive officer, formalizing a leadership transition after she served as interim CEO since February 2026. The appointment provides continuity for the national sport organization as it focuses on financial management, athlete development, participation and strengthening its programs across Canada.
Macatee brings 14 years of experience in the sport, including nearly a decade with Triathlon Canada. Her appointment follows a period of organizational changes, revenue growth and the return of the Canadian Triathlon Championships to Victoria.
Rachel Macatee Takes Permanent Leadership Role at Triathlon Canada
During her tenure as interim CEO, Macatee oversaw day-to-day operations while managing governance changes, leadership transitions and international matters affecting the triathlon community.
She also contributed to increasing organizational revenues and helped lead the return of national championship racing to Victoria, an important development for the sport’s presence in British Columbia.
Triathlon Canada President Sasha Beck said Macatee’s organizational knowledge and relationships with stakeholders were important considerations in the appointment.
“Rachel is a knowledgeable, dedicated and forward-thinking leader who brings the experience, drive and relationships needed to lead Triathlon Canada,” said Sasha Beck, president, Triathlon Canada. “She has a deep understanding of our sport and the opportunities and challenges facing a national non-profit sport organization. Her ability to balance the day-to-day demands of running the organization with a broader vision for the future, combined with the strong relationships she has built across Canada and internationally, makes her exceptionally well suited to this role. We are excited to have Rachel lead Triathlon Canada and look forward to working with her as we continue to strengthen our sport.”
Experience Across Canadian Triathlon Development and Operations
Macatee began working in triathlon event operations in 2012 before joining Triathlon Canada in August 2017. She assumed leadership of the organization’s sport development team in early 2018.
Since then, she has helped oversee several national programs supporting athletes, coaches, technical officials and event organizers.
Her responsibilities have included domestic hosting of national and international competitions, the National Development Series, training camps, Age Group World Championship teams and coach certification initiatives.
She has also worked on technical officials’ education, youth participation programs and the integration of Safe Sport principles into organizational activities.
Leadership Experience in Paralympic Sport
Macatee’s experience extends to Canada’s Paralympic triathlon program, where she served as team manager through the Tokyo 2020 and Paris 2024 Paralympic Games cycles.
Those responsibilities provided experience coordinating high-performance sport programs and working with athletes and support personnel in international competition environments.
Her background across grassroots development and elite competition gives her familiarity with the different operational needs of Canada’s triathlon system.
New CEO Outlines Commitment to Canadian Triathlon Community
Macatee acknowledged the contributions of staff, provincial organizations and volunteers in supporting her career and the sport’s development.
“I have been fortunate to build my career with Triathlon Canada, and I am honoured to step into this leadership position,” said Macatee. “Triathlon is blessed with an amazing community of athletes, coaches, officials, race organizers, volunteers and administrators. My 14 years working in this sport have provided incredibly rewarding opportunities to work with this community, both here in Canada and around the world. Thank you in particular to the Triathlon Canada staff and Board, along with our colleagues in the provincial offices, for your trust and support. It is a very exciting time in the Canadian sport system, and I am looking forward to what comes next.”
Financial Oversight and National Sport Development Priorities
As CEO, Macatee will oversee financial management, strategic planning, organizational operations, partner relationships, communications and national program delivery.
She will work under the strategic direction established by Triathlon Canada’s board of directors while coordinating with provincial sport organizations and other stakeholders.
The organization represents more than 22,000 members, including athletes, coaches and officials participating at recreational, developmental and elite levels.
Its activities receive support from corporate partners and public-sector organizations, including the Government of Canada, Canadian Olympic Committee, Canadian Paralympic Committee and Own the Podium.
Focus on Long-Term Organizational Stability
Macatee’s appointment comes as Triathlon Canada seeks to maintain operational stability while expanding participation opportunities and supporting athletes pursuing national and international competition.
The leadership transition places an experienced internal executive in charge of the organization’s next phase, with financial sustainability, collaboration with provincial partners and athlete development remaining central to its national mandate.
