Space: China, Shenzhou-13 astronauts complete a second Eve – from China

(ANSA-XINHUA) – BEIJING, Dec. 27 – Astronauts Zhai Zhigang and Ye Guangfu have completed their extravehicular (Eva) activities and returned to the central module of the Tianhe Space Station, China’s manned space agency reported in the early hours of the day. (SMSA).

This is the fourth extravehicular activity for astronauts to build the Chinese space station, and the second for the Shenzhou-13 crew.

CMSA said the EVAs were successful and that the couple returned to the central unit at 00:55 (Beijing time) after about six hours of operations. They completed tasks such as lifting the panoramic camera and testing materials transportation.

The function and performance of the airlock compartment, balance or compensation chamber, central unit, extravehicular suit and mechanical arm were also tested, as were technologies related to extravehicular activities itself, as well as coordination between astronauts inside and outside the space station, and coordination between space and Earth.

The Shenzhou-13 crew will continue their work in orbit to welcome the New Year. Cmsa added that this is the first time that Chinese astronauts have welcomed a new year in space.

China launched the Shenzhou-13 spacecraft on October 16, sending three astronauts on a six-month mission to build its space station. The crew performed their first EVA on November 7. (Ansa Shinhwa).
