Hit superhero satire prepares for its concluding chapter with weekly episode rollout through May
Prime Video has released the official trailer for the fifth and final season of The Boys, marking the beginning of the end for the globally popular superhero satire. The concluding season of the multi-Emmy Award-winning series will debut April 8, 2026, with two episodes, launching what the platform describes as an explosive final chapter for the franchise.
Produced by Sony Pictures Television and Amazon MGM Studios, the final season will stream exclusively on Prime Video in more than 240 countries and territories. After the two-episode premiere, new installments will be released weekly, culminating in the series finale on May 20, 2026.
The newly released trailer brings together many of the show’s central characters as tensions escalate ahead of the story’s ultimate confrontation. Prime Video positioned the preview as a first look at the climactic narrative arc that will conclude one of its most recognizable original series.
The show has built a global following since its debut, offering a dark and often satirical take on superheroes, corporate power and celebrity culture. Over its run, The Boys has become a flagship title for Prime Video and a cornerstone of its original programming strategy.
Season five’s storyline places the world firmly under the influence of its central antagonist. According to the official season synopsis, “In the fifth and final season, it’s Homelander’s world, completely subject to his erratic, egomaniacal whims.”
The narrative sees several key members of the anti-superhero vigilante group facing dire circumstances. “Hughie, Mother’s Milk, and Frenchie are imprisoned in a ‘Freedom Camp.’ Annie struggles to mount a resistance against the overwhelming Supe force. Kimiko is nowhere to be found.”
The arrival of Billy Butcher, one of the series’ most central characters, sets the stage for the season’s defining conflict. “But when Butcher reappears, ready and willing to use a virus that will wipe all Supes off the map, he sets in motion a chain of events that will forever change the world and everyone in it. It’s the climax, people. Big stuff’s gonna happen.”
The series is based on the New York Times best-selling comic book created by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson. Both Ennis and Robertson serve as executive producers on the television adaptation.
The Boys was developed for television by executive producer and showrunner Eric Kripke, who has overseen the creative direction of the series since its launch. The production team includes a broad group of executive producers spanning multiple studios and production companies.
Executive producers include Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg, James Weaver, Neal H. Moritz, Pavun Shetty, Phil Sgriccia, Michaela Starr, Paul Grellong, David Reed, Judalina Neira, Jessica Chou, Gabriel Garcia, Ori Marmur, Ken F. Levin and Jason Netter.
The series is produced by Sony Pictures Television and Amazon MGM Studios, alongside Kripke Enterprises, Original Film and Point Grey Pictures.
For Prime Video, the conclusion of The Boys represents the closing chapter of one of its most prominent original franchises. Since its debut, the series has generated strong viewership and cultural impact, spawning spin-offs and expanding the platform’s superhero programming.
Prime Video positions itself as a comprehensive entertainment platform offering movies, television series, documentaries and live sports within a single application available across a wide range of devices. The service hosts both original productions and licensed content.
Among its original titles are series and films produced by Amazon MGM Studios, including Fallout, The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, Reacher, The Boys and Roadhouse. The platform also carries licensed programming such as The Vampire Diaries and exclusive sports and entertainment content.
In Canada, Prime Video’s lineup includes programming such as Prime Monday Night Hockey and content from a range of channels available through add-on subscriptions. These include Sportsnet, Paramount+, Crave, Citytv+, STARZ, AMC+, Super Channel, BritBox, Hayu and STACKTV, which aggregates multiple television networks.
Customers can also rent or purchase films through the Prime Video Store, including recent blockbusters such as Barbie and Oppenheimer, regardless of whether they subscribe to the company’s Prime membership service.
As the final season approaches, the release of the trailer signals the beginning of the end for a series that has helped define Prime Video’s original programming slate. With its final episodes scheduled to roll out weekly through May, the platform is preparing audiences for what it describes as a decisive and transformative conclusion to the story of The Boys.
