Canadian New Wave veterans Men Without Hats are returning to stages across North America with an extensive tour supporting their new album On the Moon, extending a career that began in Montreal nearly five decades ago.
The “You Can Dance If You Want Tour” is scheduled to begin Nov. 27 in Mount Dora, Florida, before travelling through the U.S. East Coast and Midwest. The band will then move into a substantial Canadian run in January and February 2027, followed by Australian dates beginning in May.
The tour follows the release of On the Moon and renewed online attention for the group. “I The ’80s,” the album’s first single, has surpassed 1.5 million views on YouTube, according to the band’s announcement.
Men Without Hats Build on Nearly Five Decades of New Wave Music
Formed in Montreal in 1978 by Ivan Doroschuk, Men Without Hats became one of Canada’s internationally recognized New Wave acts through songs including “The Safety Dance” and “Pop Goes the World.”
Those recordings have continued to find commercial and cultural uses decades after their original releases. The band’s music has appeared in advertising campaigns involving McDonald’s, Alaska Airlines and Tide, as well as Super Bowl-related campaigns. More recently, its music was heard as a stadium chant during UEFA Euro 2024.
Men Without Hats were inducted into the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2020.
Ivan Doroschuk has remained the group’s principal songwriter and creative lead through multiple lineup changes. His brother Colin Doroschuk played keyboards during much of the band’s 1980s period.
A Second Generation Joins the Band
The Doroschuk family’s connection to Men Without Hats expanded in 2023 when Colin’s daughter, Sahara Sloan, joined the group on keyboards.
The current lineup consists of Ivan Doroschuk, Sloan, guitarist Sho Murray and drummer Adrian White.
The group spent much of 2025 touring Canada and the United States before travelling to the United Kingdom and Europe for summer performances. It subsequently returned to Canada for another series of shows.
Men Without Hats also released a live album in February 2025 featuring material recorded during its 2024 tour. The release is available on vinyl and streaming services.
According to promotional figures supplied by the band, its catalogue has accumulated more than 31 million YouTube views and reached 11 million Spotify listeners worldwide.
‘On the Moon’ Developed in British Columbia Studios
Work on On the Moon began in early 2025 when Doroschuk entered the studio with Grammy and JUNO Award-winning producer Brian Howes.
The album was developed in two stages in British Columbia. Initial sessions took place at Howes’ studio in the Comox Valley on Vancouver Island, where Doroschuk and Howes worked on the record’s larger-scale material.
Production later shifted to Victoria, where Doroschuk worked with longtime guitarist, producer and engineer Sho Murray on the album’s quieter material.
Sahara Sloan contributed additional vocals, while Mark Needham handled mixing and Howie Weinberg completed mastering.
The record accompanies the band’s latest touring cycle and provides new material alongside the catalogue that established Men Without Hats internationally during the 1980s.
Canadian Tour Includes The Spoons and Carole Pope
The Canadian portion of the tour will bring together several established names from the country’s New Wave and post-punk era.
The Spoons are scheduled to join Men Without Hats for Western Canadian performances, while Carole Pope will appear on the Ontario dates.
Western Canadian stops include Coquitlam, Calgary, Regina and Winnipeg, followed by a Jan. 31 performance in Thunder Bay.
Ontario Shows Continue Through February 2027
The Ontario run begins Feb. 3 at the Market Hall Performing Arts Centre in Peterborough, with Carole Pope joining the bill.
Additional performances are scheduled for Ottawa, North Bay, Richmond Hill, Guelph, Burlington, Sarnia, Brampton and St. Catharines.
Before arriving in Canada, Men Without Hats will perform across several U.S. markets, including Atlanta, Virginia Beach, Rochester and Asbury Park. January performances are also planned in Palm Springs and Pala, California.
Following the North American schedule, the band will head to Australia for shows in Newcastle, Sydney, Adelaide, Melbourne and Brisbane before concluding the announced tour dates June 1 at the Rosemount Hotel in Perth.
The expanded touring schedule, combined with the release of On the Moon, represents another chapter for one of Canada’s longest-running New Wave exports as Men Without Hats introduces new recordings alongside songs that have remained part of popular culture for more than four decades.
