OAKLAND, Calif. — The Collective Book Studio, a woman-owned independent publisher, says it will release a second children’s title from New York Times bestselling author, pilot and philanthropist Lauren Sánchez Bezos, expanding her Flynn the Fly series with a new ocean-themed adventure.
The publisher announced that The Fly Who Flew Under the Sea will be published on March 3, 2026, with editions planned in both English and Spanish. It will be Sánchez Bezos’ second book in the Fly series, following the continuing story of Flynn, a character designed to encourage young readers through themes of self-confidence, learning differences and environmental stewardship.
The new title centres on exploration and conservation, with the story taking Flynn beneath the ocean surface after an unexpected detour. The book is illustrated by Raleigh Stewart, whose artwork supports a visual journey through marine habitats and wildlife, according to the publisher.
“The Fly Who Flew Under the Sea is the second book in her Fly series,” the press release notes, describing the project as the next instalment in the “Flynn the Fly” storyline.
In the upcoming story, Flynn is travelling toward Cape Canaveral but makes a wrong turn. That mistake, the publisher says, becomes the catalyst for discovery, as Flynn encounters ocean environments ranging from coral reefs and mangrove forests to undersea mountain ranges. Along the way, young readers are introduced to biodiversity and natural wonders intended to spark curiosity about the planet and the importance of protecting it.
The book is positioned as an educational picture book that pairs storytelling with lessons about nature and self-acceptance. The publisher says it aims to highlight the value of embracing differences and learning in non-traditional ways, while also reinforcing themes of exploration and care for the environment.
A notable feature of the release will be its glow-in-the-dark element, which the publisher describes as part of an “unforgettable glow-in-the-dark journey under the sea.” The book’s visual approach is meant to help immerse readers in the ocean setting, while the narrative encourages children to see unexpected turns as opportunities rather than setbacks.
The Collective Book Studio also framed the title as broadly accessible for families and classrooms, calling it “a must read for young readers everywhere.” The publisher’s announcement emphasized the combination of adventure storytelling and educational messaging as key to the book’s appeal.
The release comes as Sánchez Bezos takes on a larger role in U.S. literacy programming. The press release notes she was recently named Literacy Champion for Impact Reading’s United States of Readers Program, which is described as a proven initiative focused on providing free books to students in high-needs schools with limited access to reading materials.
Under the program, her Flynn the Fly character will serve as the official “Spokesfly/Portavoz,” with the goal of motivating children to read more and engage with stories in and outside the classroom.
The initiative includes direct support for students and educators. Through United States of Readers, participating students will be able to select ten new books to keep over the course of the school year, while teachers will receive 25 free books to help build classroom libraries.
Program materials will also incorporate Flynn-related content. The press release says program flyers will include Flynn titles among the available book selections and will introduce a year-long classroom activity called “Dear Flynn,” inviting students to write letters to the character about their dreams, goals and love of stories.
The Collective Book Studio, which described itself as an independent publisher, positioned the new book as part of its broader focus on children’s publishing with social impact themes. The dual-language release in English and Spanish suggests an effort to reach a wider range of readers and families, including bilingual households and schools serving diverse communities.
The publisher’s announcement concludes with a listing for the title: The Fly Who Flew Under the Sea by Lauren Sánchez Bezos, published by The Collective Book Studio on March 3, 2026.
