Hockey India announces 22-member Indian women’s junior hockey team to tour Europe

New Delhi, May 6, 2024: Hockey India on Monday announced the Indian women’s junior hockey team that will tour Europe from May 21-29, 2024. The team will play six matches in three countries against Belgium, Germany, Bredase Hockey Vereniging Push and Oranje Rood, two club teams in the Netherlands. .

The Indian women’s junior hockey team will play matches in Belgium, Germany and Netherlands to work on improving their game and pushing beyond their limits in a bid to continue dominating the game on the global stage. They will play their first match on May 21 against Bredase Hockey Vereniging Push in Breda before playing Belgium at the same venue on May 22. The Indian women’s junior hockey team will next play Belgium for the second time, but the latter will host the occasion on May 24. This will be followed by back-to-back matches against Germany on May 26 in Breda and May 27 in Germany respectively. They will then return to Breda to play their final match of the tour on May 29 against Orangi Road.

The team will be led by defender Jyoti Singh while midfielder Sakshi Rana has been appointed as her deputy. Aditi Maheshwari and Nidhi form the goalkeeping while Jyoti Singh, Lalthantalwangi, Anjali Barua, Pooja Sahu, Mamita Oram and Neeru Kohlu form the defence.

Kshetrimayum Sonia Devi, Rajani Kerketta, Priyanka Yadav, Khaidem Shileima Chanu, Sakshi Rana, Anisha Sahu and Supriya Kujur form the midfield. The forwards named in the squad are Penima Dan, Hina Banu, Larinboy, Ishika, Sanjana Horo, Sonam and Kanika Siwatch.

“There is great camaraderie in the team. We have all gotten to know each other well during the camp. Everyone here is very skilled and talented. It will be fun and a good learning experience to play abroad against other quality teams,” said captain Jyoti Singh.

Vice-captain Sakshi Rana shared the captain’s sentiments. “Playing against good teams from other countries helps develop an understanding of different styles of the game,” she said. “A tour like this provides all of us with a massive opportunity to take our game to the next level.”
