The London Heritage Council is preparing to mark a major milestone this September as Doors Open London celebrates its 25th anniversary with a free, city-wide weekend highlighting the businesses, cultural institutions, historic sites and community organizations that have helped shape London, Ontario.
Doors Open London 2026 will take place Saturday, September 19, and Sunday, September 20, across 40 sites throughout the city. This year’s theme, “Cheers to Years: Celebrating 25 years together,” will look back at a quarter-century of connecting residents and visitors with London’s heritage while showcasing how participating organizations have evolved over time.
Doors Open London Brings 40 Sites Into 25th Anniversary Program
The 2026 program will give the public access to a diverse collection of businesses, places of worship, entertainment venues, museums and heritage properties. Participating locations will highlight their roles in London’s development and the ways they have contributed to the city’s character.
The anniversary weekend will include live performances, demonstrations, guided tours and historical re-enactments. Organizers are positioning the event as an opportunity for residents and visitors to experience London’s cultural history through the institutions and spaces that have played a role in the community.
The London Heritage Council said:

Explore a variety of businesses, places of worship, entertainment venues, museums, and heritage sites — all showcasing how they have contributed to London’s unique character over time.”
Organizations to Highlight Growth and Change
The 25th anniversary will also provide participating organizations with an opportunity to reflect on their own histories. The program is expected to show how local institutions have grown, adapted to changing circumstances and contributed to London’s evolving identity.

The event’s broad range of participating locations is intended to make heritage accessible beyond traditional museums and historic properties, incorporating commercial, religious, cultural and entertainment spaces into the city-wide program.
UNESCO City of Music Designation Takes Centre Stage
Music will have a prominent role in the anniversary celebrations. London is using the event to recognize its designation as a UNESCO City of Music, with musical performances planned at various participating locations across the city.
The programming also coincides with London’s bicentennial year, adding another historical dimension to the 2026 edition of Doors Open London.
“In this bicentennial year we will be celebrating London’s designation as a UNESCO City of Music by featuring musical performances at various locations spread across the city. Join us for a free, city-wide celebration of the City of London’s largest collective celebration of culture and heritage, this year, at the 25th anniversary Doors Open London!”
The combination of heritage programming and live music is expected to showcase both London’s historical foundations and its contemporary cultural sector.
London Heritage Council to Recognize 25 Years of Support
Ahead of the public weekend, the London Heritage Council will recognize the organizations, supporters and community members that have helped sustain Doors Open London over its first 25 years.
A special appreciation event is scheduled for Friday, September 18, at 1 p.m. at Canada Life Auditorium, located at 255 Dufferin Ave. The event will acknowledge funders, sponsors, government representatives and members of the London community for their long-term support.
“This year, the London Heritage Council will honour the commitment and dedication of the many contributors to Doors Open London, without which these past twenty-five years would not have been possible. On Friday, September 18th, 2026, the LHC will hold a special appreciation event at Canada Life Auditorium (255 Dufferin Ave), at 1pm, thanking our funders, sponsors, government representatives, and the London community for their 25 years of support.”
Free Weekend Celebrates London’s Cultural Identity
Since its launch, Doors Open London has developed into a collective showcase of the city’s architecture, heritage, culture and community organizations. The 2026 edition will use its anniversary to recognize that history while giving participating organizations a platform to tell their own stories.
