Federal government announces nationwide celebrations centred on music, culture and community participation
The federal government has unveiled the official programming for Canada Day 2026, with celebrations set to feature nationally broadcast concerts, cultural performances and public participation initiatives aimed at showcasing Canadian identity from coast to coast to coast.
The announcement was made Thursday in Ottawa by the Honourable Marc Miller, Minister of Canadian Identity and Culture and Minister responsible for Official Languages, as organizers outlined a full day of events scheduled for July 1 in the nation’s capital and communities across the country.
“Through art, music and our traditions, Canadian identity will shine across the country on July 1,” the government said in its announcement.
Officials said this year’s Canada Day celebrations are designed to unite Canadians through shared cultural experiences while highlighting the country’s artistic diversity and regional representation.
“On July 1, Canadians from coast to coast to coast are invited to celebrate in their own communities, as well as in the heart of Canada’s Capital Region,” the announcement stated. “Wherever we are, Canada Day remains a unique opportunity to come together, create precious memories and proudly show our colours.”
National evening concert to headline celebrations
LeBreton Flats Park to host bilingual live broadcast event
The centrepiece of the celebrations will be the National Evening Show, titled Celebrating Our Canada, taking place at LeBreton Flats Park in Ottawa.
The live event will be broadcast nationally from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. ET across multiple television, streaming and digital platforms, including CBC Television, CBC Gem, CBC Music, ICI Télé, ICI TOU.TV and official CBC and Radio-Canada YouTube channels.
In addition to performances from Ottawa, organizers confirmed that portions of the broadcast will also feature segments from Moncton, New Brunswick, and Winnipeg, Manitoba.
“Live from Ottawa, with segments presented from Moncton, New Brunswick, and Winnipeg, Manitoba, the great Canada Day musical celebration will bring together generations and regions from coast to coast to coast,” the release said.
The government added that the event will feature artists “who are shaping today’s Canada” and will celebrate the country’s cultural diversity through music and dance performances.
“Through music and dance, this evening will highlight diversity, vitality and the spirit of celebration that unites Canadians,” organizers said.
Canadian artists from multiple genres featured in lineup
The evening show lineup includes a mix of established Canadian performers and emerging artists from across the country.
Scheduled performers include Alessia Cara, Barenaked Ladies, Adam Baldwin, Diane Dufresne, Isabelle Boulay, Pierre Lapointe, Dominique Fils-Aimé and Lisa LeBlanc.
Additional performers include Andrina Turenne and Begonia from Winnipeg, as well as P’tit Belliveau, Gab Bouchard, MICO, Noeline Hofmann, Paul Langlois, Beatrice Deer and Sylvia Cloutier.
The event will be hosted by Isabelle Racicot.
Organizers also confirmed that the bilingual national show will include simultaneous interpretation in American Sign Language (ASL) and Langue des signes québécoise (LSQ), expanding accessibility for viewers across Canada.
Noon ceremony to begin official Canada Day programming
National ceremony to focus on Canadian history and public participation
The official Canada Day schedule will begin earlier in the day with the National Noon Ceremony, also held at LeBreton Flats Park in Ottawa.
The ceremony will begin at noon ET and will be carried live on CBC Television, CBC News Network, CBC Gem, ICI Télé, ICI RDI and several digital streaming platforms.
According to organizers, the ceremony will highlight significant moments in Canadian history while featuring special guests expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
“In addition to highlighting key moments in our history, this ceremony will bring together inspiring guests,” the government said.
The daytime event is expected to serve as the formal launch of nationwide celebrations before the evening concert programming begins.
Interactive contest returns for second year
Canadians invited to submit video messages for national broadcast
The government is also bringing back the “O Canada! Station” initiative for a second consecutive year as part of its broader public engagement strategy.
The contest invites Canadians to submit short video messages wishing the country a happy Canada Day. Selected submissions will be included in a montage aired during the national evening broadcast.
“Some of these videos will be shown during the broadcast of the national evening show in a montage of wishes captured across the country,” organizers said.
Participants will also be eligible for prize draws, including a VIA Rail Canada trip in 2026 and a VIP experience at Canada Day 2027 celebrations.
“Each eligible person who submits a video has a chance to win a trip aboard VIA Rail Canada in 2026, as well as a VIP experience at Canada Day 2027,” the release stated.
Officials noted that only one entry per person will qualify for the contest draws.
The 2026 celebrations continue Ottawa’s broader effort to position Canada Day as both a national cultural showcase and a large-scale public engagement event supported through traditional broadcasting and digital platforms.
