Ontario Punk Trio Prepares Release of Upcoming Album Lose My Grip
Ontario punk band Among Legends has released “Floating Here For Years,” the second single from its forthcoming full-length album Lose My Grip, scheduled for release on July 10, 2026.
The track, which became publicly available on June 12, marks a more emotionally reflective direction for the trio while maintaining the melodic punk foundations that have defined the band’s sound since forming in 2016. Produced, engineered, mixed and mastered by Matt Gauthier at ARC Recording Studio and This Place Needs A Name, the single arrives as the band continues building momentum across the Canadian and U.S. punk touring circuit.
Among Legends, whose members draw influence from Ontario’s mid-2000s punk and ska scene, have spent nearly a decade developing their profile through self-released EPs, extensive touring and lineup changes. Their sound blends melodic punk, punk rock and pop punk influences, with comparisons to bands including The Flatliners, The Menzingers, Alkaline Trio and Bad Religion.
According to the band, Lose My Grip represents a departure from the more polished pop-punk elements of its earlier material in favour of a leaner and more emotionally direct approach.
“Floating Here For Years” Explores Themes of Stagnation and Exhaustion
The new single centres on feelings of burnout, emotional fatigue and personal stagnation, combining driving guitars and melodic hooks with introspective lyricism.
“Floating Here For Years” captures that progression in full. Built around driving guitars, locked-in rhythm changes, and a vocal performance that feels equally exhausted and determined, the track wrestles with stagnation, burnout, and the strange numbness that can come from standing still too long.
The release statement describes the song’s central lyric — “All I hear’s the pounding of my heart inside my head / I’ve been floating here for years” — as a moment of blunt emotional clarity that reflects the broader themes running throughout the upcoming album.
The project was recorded following a prolonged period of transition for the band. Among Legends said the COVID-19 pandemic delayed the release of its debut full-length album Take Good Care, while lineup shifts forced the group to rebuild itself during years of steady touring.
Those experiences appear to shape the tone of Lose My Grip, which the band says focuses less on fitting into a specific subgenre and more on emotional honesty and connection.
The release also highlights the practical realities of independent touring life in Canada, referencing “The long overnight drives on the 401. Loading gear into tiny clubs after midnight. The fluorescent buzz of a Tim Hortons stop before another stretch of highway.”
Canadian Touring Circuit Continues to Shape Band’s Identity
Since releasing Take Good Care, Among Legends has continued touring throughout Canada and the United States, building a reputation for energetic live performances and a straightforward approach that emphasizes authenticity over image.
The current recording lineup for Lose My Grip features Mitchell Buchanan on bass and vocals, Sara Fellin on drums and vocals, and Tyler Boles on guitar.
The band’s latest material reflects both personal and musical evolution while remaining rooted in the melodic punk traditions that influenced its early years.
