Prime Video has set an October 30 global premiere for Apocalypse Z: New World, the second instalment in its post-apocalyptic film franchise, expanding a property that has already built a significant international audience on the streaming platform.
The Halloween release will arrive in more than 240 countries and territories following a festival debut at the 59th Sitges Film Festival on October 10. Prime Video has also released the first teaser for the sequel, which continues the story inspired by the work of author Manel Loureiro.
Sequel Expands Prime Video’s Post-Apocalyptic Franchise
Apocalypse Z: New World follows Apocalypse Z: The Beginning of the End, which Prime Video said became its most-watched international Original movie, behind only Your Fault.
Director Carles Torrens, whose credits include Sky Rojo and Animal de compañía, returns for the second film. The sequel broadens the scope of the franchise with an ensemble-driven story focused on survival, adventure and large-scale action.
The film shifts the story to the Canary Islands, portrayed as Europe’s last refuge following the outbreak of the TSJ virus. A special mission is organized to travel to the mainland in search of vital supplies, drawing Roberto into the operation despite uncertainty surrounding his motives.
The mission soon develops into a struggle for survival as the group encounters infected hordes and conflicting loyalties. The story centres on the characters’ choices between individual survival and protecting the remaining elements of humanity.
Returning Characters Joined by Expanded Cast
Carlos Alcaide, known for El Internado: Las Cumbres and La edad de la ira, leads the cast alongside Julia Martínez of La promesa, Mónica López of Rapa and Cronos, Tamara Casellas of Ama and El Hijo Zurdo, and Santiago Vaca Narvaja, whose credits include La sociedad de la nieve and Ciudad universitaria.
José María Yazpik, internationally known for his role in Narcos, returns as Pritchenko, an ally introduced in the first movie who is searching for a possible escape from the worsening crisis.
Berta Vázquez also reprises her role as Lucía, a nurse barricaded inside a hospital while confronting the continuing threat posed by the infected. Pedrito, the cat that plays Lúculo, will also return after becoming a recognizable part of the first film.
The expanded cast includes Axel Medrano, Pedro Hernández, Javier Godino, Ujin Moreno and Mario Mayo.
Nostromo Pictures Returns to Produce the Sequel
Nostromo Pictures is producing Apocalypse Z: New World, with Núria Valls and Adrián Guerra serving as executive producers. Ángel Agudo wrote the screenplay.
The production continues Prime Video’s investment in internationally produced films capable of reaching audiences across multiple markets through a simultaneous streaming release.
The October launch also places the film within Prime Video’s Halloween programming window, with its combination of horror, action and survival themes designed for genre audiences.
Prime Video Continues Expanding Entertainment Offering in Canada
For Canadian viewers, Apocalypse Z: New World will join a Prime Video catalogue that combines original films and television series with licensed programming and live sports.
The platform’s Canadian sports offering includes NHL, NBA, WNBA and PWHL content, while customers can also access a range of additional streaming subscriptions through Prime Video, including services such as Apple TV+, BritBox, Crave, Citytv+, Paramount+, Sportsnet, STARZ and TSN.
Prime Video also offers movie and television rentals and purchases alongside programming included through Prime membership.
With its Sitges Film Festival debut scheduled for October 10 and worldwide streaming launch following on October 30, Apocalypse Z: New World will give Prime Video a major genre release heading into Halloween while extending the international franchise beyond its successful first instalment.
