New LP captures raw live energy through a stripped-down recording approach as the French band releases its latest studio project
French rock duo Quintana Dead Blues eXperience has released its latest album, Ashes, marking a new chapter for the Bordeaux-based project led by longtime musician Piero Quintana. Released on June 26, 2026, the record combines grunge, heavy blues, garage rock and alternative influences while embracing a live, unpolished sound that reflects the band’s evolving creative direction.
The album arrives as Quintana reunites with drummer Adrien Schiavone, transforming what had largely been a one-man project into a full-force two-piece act. The result is a heavier, more dynamic recording that leans into spontaneity rather than studio perfection.
A Return to Live, Unfiltered Rock
Ashes was written and recorded over three days in January 2026 at Silver Recordings in Bilbao, Spain. The album was produced, recorded and mixed by Martín Guevara of CAPSULA using a largely live recording process designed to preserve the energy of the performances.
Rather than relying on extensive editing or layered production techniques, the sessions were tracked with minimal separation between instruments, allowing natural sound bleed and real-time interaction between the musicians to remain intact.
That recording philosophy gives the album a raw quality, with thick guitar tones, exposed vocals and performances that prioritize emotion over technical precision.
Album Explores Grunge, Blues and Garage Rock Influences
Drawing inspiration from both North American and European rock traditions, Ashes blends elements of blues-rock, stoner rock, grunge and stripped-down rock and roll.
The album reflects musical influences associated with bands such as Nirvana, Queens of the Stone Age, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club and Jack White, while also acknowledging French rock acts including The Inspector Cluzo, Trust and Les Thugs.
Several tracks showcase different aspects of the band’s sound. “Spell on Me” and “Wild as Fire” emphasize heavy riffs and driving rhythms, while “Still Haunted” adopts a darker, more spacious atmosphere. The album also features a reinterpretation of Nirvana’s “School,” delivering a heavier and more abrasive take on the classic song.
The title track, “Ashes,” joins “Spell on Me” and “What’s Mine” as one of the project’s highlighted songs.
Years of Experience Shape the Project
Quintana has spent decades performing in various rock projects dating back to the 1990s before developing Quintana Dead Blues eXperience into a solo endeavor. The addition of Schiavone on drums marks a significant evolution for the project, creating a more collaborative and energetic approach to songwriting and live performance.
Rather than pursuing commercial polish, the duo focuses on capturing authenticity through straightforward recording methods and emotionally driven performances.
The album reflects that philosophy by preserving imperfections that often emerge during live studio sessions, giving listeners an experience that mirrors the intensity of an onstage performance.
Independent Approach Remains Central
Operating outside the mainstream music industry, Quintana Dead Blues eXperience continues to build its identity through independent production and a commitment to artistic freedom.
That approach is evident throughout Ashes, where the emphasis remains on organic performances, loud guitar-driven arrangements and honest songwriting instead of highly processed production.
The band’s willingness to embrace a rough-edged sound distinguishes the release within today’s rock landscape, where many recordings rely heavily on digital refinement.
New Album Available Now
Ashes is now available on major streaming platforms following its June 26 release. Fans can also access the band’s music and merchandise through its official online channels, while the music video for the title track is available for viewing.
With its combination of live recording techniques, blues-infused riffs and grunge-inspired intensity, Ashes represents the latest milestone for Quintana Dead Blues eXperience as the Bordeaux duo continues to develop its place within the international independent rock scene.
