Friday lineup led by Rivers of Nihil
The opening night of the festival will be headlined by Rivers of Nihil, a progressive and technical death metal band from Reading, Pennsylvania.
Known for blending atmospheric and experimental elements with traditional extreme metal, the band gained international recognition following the release of its album Where Owls Know My Name, which charted on the Billboard 200.
The group has released five studio albums to date, including its latest self-titled record, Rivers of Nihil (2025), which introduced a refreshed lineup and marked a new phase in the band’s musical direction.
Also performing Friday is San Francisco’s Cyborg Octopus, a band recognized for mixing progressive metalcore with influences from jazz, funk, electronic music and experimental rock. Their releases Between the Light and Air (2022) and Bottom Feeder (2024) helped establish the group as a rising act in the U.S. progressive metal scene.
Another Friday highlight is Fervence, a progressive metalcore band originally from Reno, Nevada, now based in Austin, Texas. The band signed with Metal Blade Records in 2025 following lineup changes and the addition of vocalist Stevie B.
Their debut album Ghost (2020) introduced a cinematic and atmospheric approach to metalcore, combining technical instrumentation with emotional intensity.
Additional Friday performers include Iron Kingdom from Vancouver, Ottawa’s Lycanthro, and several Western Canadian bands such as W.M.D., Syryn, Nameless King and Frosthymn.
Saturday headlined by Dying Fetus
Closing night on Saturday will be led by Dying Fetus, one of the longest-running acts in American extreme metal.
The Baltimore-based band has released nine studio albums and built a reputation for technically precise performances and aggressive sound, making them a staple at metal festivals worldwide.
Supporting the second day of the festival is Canadian progressive and melodic death metal band Into Eternity from Regina, Saskatchewan. With a career approaching three decades, the band is known for combining soaring clean vocals with aggressive growls and technically demanding songwriting.
The group is currently completing a new studio album, which will be its first release featuring returning vocalist Stu Block since he rejoined the band.
Also performing Saturday is Vintersea, an Oregon-based band whose music blends melodic death metal, blackened influences and atmospheric post-metal elements.
The festival lineup also features Okanagan-based band Odinfist, which will mark its 20th anniversary with a special performance highlighting songs from across its catalogue. Vancouver’s Iron Kingdom will also appear at the festival in support of its upcoming sixth studio album, Shadows and Dust, scheduled for release in June.
Other acts performing across the weekend include Nott, Art of Attrition, Wych, Fallen Sun, The Judge The Juror, Brain Stem and several emerging bands from British Columbia and Alberta.
Festival activities and camping
In addition to live performances, Armstrong MetalFest will host several on-site attractions designed to enhance the weekend experience for attendees.
These include the Yeti Games, the Metal Madness Market and the festival’s Thrash Wrestling event.
Organizers also offer on-site camping, including RV and vehicle passes for attendees wishing to park within the designated camping area. RV hookups with water and power are available for an additional fee, while vehicles parked in the main lot outside the camping area do not require a pass.
With its combination of international headliners, Canadian talent and fan-focused activities, Armstrong MetalFest continues to position itself as one of Western Canada’s longest-running independent metal festivals.
