Toronto rock band Wine Lips is continuing the rollout of its forthcoming album TV Dinner with “If You Don’t Know,” a psych-punk and garage-rock single that pairs the group’s familiar distorted intensity with a more reflective look at burnout, detachment and the passage of time.
The track is the second single from TV Dinner, which is scheduled for release on Aug. 28 through Stomp Records. It follows lead single “Projector” and offers another indication of how the Toronto group is refining its sound after years of touring and building an international audience.
“If You Don’t Know” Pushes Wine Lips Into More Reflective Territory
Running three minutes and 14 seconds, “If You Don’t Know” draws on elements of 1990s alternative rock, garage punk and psychedelic rock. The recording combines heavily treated vocals, chorus-soaked guitar lines and a steady mid-tempo rhythm while retaining the rough-edged production associated with Wine Lips.
Where “Projector” delivered a sharper and more confrontational approach, the latest release turns its attention inward. The song maintains the band’s energy but places greater emphasis on atmosphere and emotional weight.
Drummer Aurora Evans plays a prominent role in the arrangement, with the percussion providing a firm centre for the distorted guitars and vocals. Rather than relying entirely on speed, the track develops its momentum through a controlled groove and dense layers of guitar.
The result places Wine Lips within the contemporary garage and psych-punk scene while also drawing comparisons with acts such as The Hives, Osees and Frankie and the Witch Fingers.
Lyrics Examine Burnout, Detachment and Growing Older
The lyrical focus adds another dimension to the track. “If You Don’t Know” examines the gradual realization that time, routines and expectations can feel different with age.
The line “Been a long long while since 16” serves as one of the song’s central observations. Rather than treating the past purely through nostalgia, the lyric reflects on distance from adolescence and the changes that accumulate over time.
Themes of burnout and detachment run through the song without shifting into overt melodrama. That restrained approach complements the track’s mid-tempo pacing, allowing the lyrics and instrumental arrangement to carry equal weight.
For Wine Lips, the combination represents an evolution rather than a departure. The psychedelic distortion and garage-rock aggression remain intact, but the writing increasingly reflects the experiences of a band that has spent much of the past decade on the road.

Wine Lips have developed a significant independent following over the past decade, accumulating more than 50 million streams while touring extensively across North America, Europe, the United Kingdom and Asia.
The Toronto band has also received recognition from Iggy Pop on BBC Radio, adding to its growing international profile.
That expansion has largely taken place outside the traditional mainstream music industry. Through repeated touring and a consistent catalogue of high-energy releases, Wine Lips have built an audience that stretches beyond their Canadian base.
The band’s music has remained rooted in fuzz-heavy psychedelic and garage rock, but TV Dinner appears positioned to introduce a more controlled version of that formula.
New Album “TV Dinner” Arrives Aug. 28
With TV Dinner, Wine Lips are maintaining the chaotic character of their previous records while directing it toward themes shaped by contemporary routines, constant digital stimulation and the exhaustion of life on the road.
“If You Don’t Know” reflects that approach particularly clearly. Its restless sound remains recognizable as Wine Lips, but the track’s heavier emotional perspective suggests the upcoming record will explore territory beyond straightforward psychedelic escapism.
International Touring Continues After Album Release
The band’s schedule will remain active following the album’s release. Wine Lips are set to return to the road in the fall as a supporting act for Death From Above 1979, followed by another European tour.
For a Canadian independent rock act that has already accumulated tens of millions of streams and developed audiences across several continents, the touring plans represent another stage in a career built heavily around live performance.
With “If You Don’t Know,” Wine Lips are showing how that experience is feeding back into their songwriting. The distortion, psychedelic textures and garage-punk swagger remain, but they now sit alongside a more measured examination of time, exhaustion and change.
