Danish singer-songwriter Tina Dico has released “This Fire!,” a collaboration with Icelandic artist Emilíana Torrini and the second single from Dico’s forthcoming album, Balancing Small Things On Sharp Edges. The album is scheduled for release on October 23, 2026, the same day Dico is set to perform the second of two shows in Ottawa as part of a series of rare Canadian appearances.
The new track follows “Surfing,” released earlier this summer, and marks the first time Dico and Torrini have recorded together. The collaboration brings together two established European artists whose careers have developed across international markets over more than two decades.
“This Fire!” Explores Life Beyond the Early Stages of a Career
Dico said the song grew from reflecting on how an artist’s relationship with a career changes once the excitement of being newly discovered has passed.
“When you’ve had a long career, there comes a time when you realise you can never be new again,” she says. “You can get better, braver, more skilled, more yourself, but you can’t recreate that first moment when people discovered you. ‘This Fire!’ dives into what replaces that newness: character, freedom and a fire that burns steadily and no less fiercely.”
For the recording, Dico turned to Torrini, an Iceland-based singer-songwriter known internationally for a career that includes the No. 1 hit “Jungle Drum” and “Gollum’s Song” from The Lord of the Rings.
Longstanding Friendship Leads to First Recording Collaboration
Dico said her friendship with Torrini, along with her admiration for the Icelandic artist’s work, made her a natural choice for the track.
“I thought of Emilíana because she’s been a musical hero of mine since I started out, and during my years in Iceland she’s also become a great friend,” Dico explains. “Somehow, she feels like the perfect person to sing this song with. I love the way she keeps moving as an artist, always curious, always exploring and with that fire completely intact.”
The collaboration also reflects Dico’s connections to Iceland, where she now lives with her husband and longtime musical partner, Helgi Jonsson.
New Album Focuses on Connection, Family and Uncertainty
“Surfing” and “This Fire!” offer different introductions to Balancing Small Things On Sharp Edges, an album centred on themes including connection, family, time and uncertainty, as well as the challenge of finding stability in an increasingly noisy environment.
Dico and Jonsson co-produced the album at Big Spring Studio in Seltjarnarnes, Iceland.
The project adds another chapter to Dico’s extensive recording career. She has topped the Danish album charts five times and performed at major festivals including Roskilde and Glastonbury. Her catalogue also includes collaborations with ambient electronica duo Zero 7.
In April 2026, Dico performed a sold-out concert for 15,000 fans at Copenhagen’s Royal Arena. Earlier in her career, she recorded her sixth album at Electric Lady Studios in New York, the studio created by Jimi Hendrix, whom Dico has cited among her earliest musical influences.
Canadian Shows to Open Upcoming Touring Schedule
Dico will begin the touring period surrounding the new album with three Canadian performances before heading to Europe in November.
Tina Dico Canadian Tour Dates
The Canadian schedule begins at Red Bird in Ottawa on October 22, with that performance already sold out. A second Red Bird concert is scheduled for October 23, coinciding with the release of Balancing Small Things On Sharp Edges.
Dico will then perform at Massey Hall’s Allied Music Centre in Toronto on October 24.
The Canadian dates provide audiences with an early opportunity to hear material from the new record as Dico begins the next stage of an international touring schedule built around an album examining longevity, relationships and the creative freedom that can emerge over the course of a long career.
