Service Changes Affect All-Day and East Hill Buses, Core Express Suspended
Prince Albert, Saskatchewan — Commuters in Prince Albert are facing temporary changes to local transit service, with two major routes moving to reduced frequency and one route suspended entirely, according to an update from Prince Albert Transit.
The notice, dated April 22, 2026, outlines interim scheduling adjustments that will remain in place until further updates are issued. Transit officials say the changes are necessary but did not specify a timeline for a return to regular service.
Hourly Departures Introduced on Key Routes
Under the revised schedule, the All Day and East Hill buses will now operate on an hourly basis from the downtown transfer station.
“The All Day bus is temporarily operating hourly, leaving from the downtown transfer station at 15 minutes past the hour,” the notice states.
Similarly, “The East Hill bus is temporarily operating hourly, leaving from the downtown transfer station at 45 minutes past the hour.”
These adjustments represent a reduction in service frequency for two of the city’s commonly used routes, potentially affecting commute times for residents relying on public transit for work, school, and daily activities.
Core Express Route Suspended
In addition to the reduced frequency on select routes, the Core Express bus has been taken out of service entirely.
“The Core Express bus is not in operation,” the update confirmed.
No alternative service for the Core Express route was outlined in the announcement, leaving riders who depend on that route to seek other transportation options or adjust their travel plans.
Other Routes Continue as Scheduled
Despite the disruptions, transit officials emphasized that the remainder of the city’s bus network is operating normally.
“All other routes are operating as scheduled,” the notice stated, indicating that the service changes are limited in scope but still significant for affected riders.
Riders Advised to Monitor Updates
Transit authorities are urging passengers to stay informed as the situation evolves.
“Please check Prince Albert Transit for up-to-date information on transit routes and schedules. Any revisions to this schedule will be published as soon as we have that information. Until then, the above schedule will be in effect.”
The advisory underscores the fluid nature of the service adjustments, suggesting that further changes could be implemented depending on operational needs.
Impact on Commuters and Local Mobility
While the transit provider has not detailed the reasons behind the temporary changes, such adjustments often stem from staffing shortages, maintenance requirements, or shifting demand patterns. Reduced frequency can lead to longer wait times and increased crowding during peak hours, particularly for essential workers and students.
The suspension of the Core Express route may have a more pronounced impact, especially if it previously served high-demand corridors or provided faster connections across the city.
