Tampa’s long-running connection to extreme metal will take center stage again this fall as Tampa Death Fest returns for its eighth annual edition. The two-day festival is scheduled for September 4–5, 2026, at the Brass Mug in Tampa, bringing together veteran acts and emerging bands from Florida and across the United States, along with a Puerto Rican entry.
Tampa Death Fest Returns to the Brass Mug
Tampa Death Fest 2026 will feature 16 bands across two nights, with a lineup spanning death metal, thrash, grind, hardcore and other corners of the underground metal scene.
The festival opens Friday, September 4, with Foreverless, Viogression, Sacrilous, Leprosy, Unholy Disciple, Homicyde, Eroguro Phantasmagore and Syndicate.
Saturday, September 5, will feature Nasty Savage, Must Not Kill, Gangrenesia, Sapraemia, Coathanger Abortion, Gouted Corpse, Ramtha and Grave Filth.
The event will be held at the Brass Mug, located at 1450 Skipper Road in Tampa.
Nasty Savage Highlights Saturday’s Lineup
Florida’s Nasty Savage is scheduled to close Saturday’s program. The Brandon-based thrash metal band emerged during the formative years of Florida’s heavy-metal scene and became known for the theatrical performances of frontman “Nasty” Ronnie Galetti.
The band’s debut album, which included the track “XXX,” was recorded at Progressive Music in Tampa and helped Nasty Savage secure a deal with Metal Blade Records. The group released four albums between 1983 and 1989 before disbanding.
Nasty Savage later returned with Psycho Psycho in 2004 and has continued to play select live performances. In October 2024, the band released its latest studio album, Jeopardy Room.
Its appearance gives Tampa Death Fest a direct connection to the region’s decades-long history as an influential center for extreme metal.
Viogression and Leprosy Bring Veteran Experience
Friday’s lineup includes Wisconsin death metal band Viogression, whose history dates to 1988.
Early demos helped the group build momentum before the release of its debut album, Expound & Exhort, in 1991. The band subsequently toured internationally with Death and Pestilence and followed its debut with Passage in 1994.
After a lengthy hiatus, Viogression returned with A Pure Formality in 2014. The band later released 3rd Stage of Decay in 2022 and its fourth album, Thaumaturgic Veil, in 2025, continuing its combination of old-school death metal and more conceptual themes.
Pennsylvania’s Leprosy will also perform Friday. Formed in 1988 and rooted in Pittsburgh’s underground metal scene, the band has developed a style centered on death and splatter-gore metal.
Over the years, Leprosy has shared stages with acts including Napalm Death, Cannibal Corpse, Malevolent Creation, Forbidden, Entombed, Venom Inc., Exodus and Deicide.
Gangrenesia Represents Puerto Rico’s Extreme-Metal Scene
Saturday’s program includes Gangrenesia, a slamming brutal death metal group formed in Caguas, Puerto Rico, in 2022.
The relatively new band has built its identity around highly percussive slam riffs, extreme vocals and gore-oriented themes. Gangrenesia has released several singles, demos and EPs while gaining exposure within the underground brutal-death and slam communities.
Its Tampa Death Fest appearance adds an international element to a lineup otherwise dominated by U.S.-based acts.
Ramtha Continues Rise in Florida Metal
Another Florida act on Saturday’s bill is Ramtha, an extreme-metal band from the St. Petersburg and Tampa area.
Formed in 2022, Ramtha combines elements of death metal, thrash, grind and hardcore. The band released Void Tyrant in 2023 and Through Eyes of Death in 2024 and is developing a third EP planned for 2026.
Ramtha was also among the national finalists in the 2026 Wacken Metal Battle USA. The group has performed regularly at the Brass Mug and has shared stages with acts including Exhorder, Crypta, Worm, Gruesome, Artillery, Killing Addiction, Bandit, Gillian Carter and Dayglo Abortions.
Two-Day Festival Builds on Tampa’s Metal Heritage
Tampa and the wider Florida region played an important role in the development of American death metal, making the city a fitting setting for a festival focused heavily on underground and old-school extreme music.
With established bands such as Nasty Savage, Viogression and Leprosy appearing alongside newer groups including Gangrenesia and Ramtha, Tampa Death Fest 2026 is designed to connect multiple generations of the scene.
The eighth annual Tampa Death Fest takes place September 4 and 5 at the Brass Mug, continuing the festival’s focus on underground heavy music while highlighting Tampa’s enduring place in U.S. metal history.
