New initiative aims to strengthen civic engagement and improve municipal decision-making
The City of Prince Albert is introducing a new community engagement initiative designed to encourage residents to take a more active role in shaping municipal policies, programs, and projects.
The initiative, known as Collaborative Groups, was approved by City Council on May 11, 2026, and is intended to bring together residents, businesses, community organizations, stakeholders, and subject matter experts to provide input on issues affecting the city.
City officials say the program will create additional opportunities for public participation while helping municipal administration gather broader perspectives on key community matters.
“We are looking for individuals who are interested in sharing their ideas, expertise, and lived experiences to help strengthen Prince Albert,” said Mayor Bill Powalinsky.
Collaborative Groups to provide advisory input on municipal issues
According to the City, Collaborative Groups will function in an advisory capacity and will not hold decision-making authority. Participation will be voluntary, and groups may be created for specific projects, issues, or areas of interest identified by municipal administration.
The City said the groups are intended to support informed decision-making by encouraging open dialogue and collaboration among community members with diverse experiences and viewpoints.
“The purpose of the new initiative is to deliver service excellence through creative problem-solving, decision-making, and collaboration with residents and partners,” said Savannah Price, City Clerk. “Collaborative Groups create a new avenue for community members to share their perspectives and help inform the work of the City. By bringing together diverse voices and experiences, we can build stronger relationships and make more informed decisions that benefit Prince Albert.”
Municipal leaders say the initiative aligns with broader efforts to improve public engagement and ensure residents have more opportunities to contribute to discussions that impact the community.
City encourages broad participation from residents and stakeholders
The City of Prince Albert is encouraging applications from residents and individuals with ties to the community, regardless of prior municipal experience.
Officials emphasized that participation from people of different ages, cultural backgrounds, neighbourhoods, abilities, and lived experiences will be important to ensuring the Collaborative Groups reflect the diversity of the city.
By participating, residents will have the opportunity to share perspectives on municipal issues, contribute ideas for future initiatives, and connect with other community members and organizations.
The City outlined several potential benefits for participants, including helping shape future municipal services and projects, contributing community perspectives to administration, and supporting efforts to build a more inclusive and connected community.
The initiative also aims to strengthen relationships between the municipality and local stakeholders by creating a structured environment for collaboration and discussion.
Applications now open for interested residents
Applications for the Collaborative Groups initiative are now open.
The City said interested individuals can apply to participate in groups related to specific municipal topics or projects as opportunities become available.
