Hall H Showcase Reveals New Trailer, Cast Additions and November Premiere Date
Prime Video has officially lifted the curtain on the third season of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, unveiling a new teaser trailer, fresh casting announcements and a series of surprise reveals during its presentation at San Diego Comic-Con’s Hall H.
More than 6,500 fans attended the event, where showrunners J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay were joined by cast members for a panel moderated by Benjamin Walker, who portrays High King Gil-galad in the series. The presentation introduced a darker direction for the upcoming season while confirming that the first four episodes will premiere globally on November 11, 2026.
The latest instalment of the fantasy drama will continue the story as Sauron’s campaign to forge the One Ring accelerates, placing the future of Middle-earth in jeopardy and forcing long-standing rivals into uneasy alliances.
New Characters and Major Casting Announcements
Several new characters were officially introduced during the Comic-Con presentation, expanding the ensemble cast for Season Three.
Among the newly announced additions:
- Eddie Marsan will portray Thrain, the older brother of King Durin IV.
- Andrew Richardson joins as Anarion, the younger son of Elendil and brother of Isildur.
- Adam Young has been cast as Marnûkh, a mysterious Orc whose true loyalties remain uncertain.
The announcements build on casting news revealed earlier in the week, including Jamie Campbell Bower as Celeborn, Galadriel’s long-lost husband, and Zubin Varla as Khamûl the Easterling, a character from the land of Rhûn.
Simon Pegg Voices the Balrog
One of the biggest surprises of the panel came during an exclusive behind-the-scenes featurette focused on the creatures appearing in the new season.
Prime Video confirmed that acclaimed actor Simon Pegg will provide the voice of the Balrog, marking the first time the iconic creature will speak in the series.
The presentation also previewed several returning and new creatures, including Fell-beasts, Mûmakil war elephants and additional Orcs that will feature prominently throughout the season.
Nazgnagôl Surprise Highlights Hall H Presentation
The Comic-Con panel also featured an unexpected live performance element when four armoured Nazgnagôl entered Hall H midway through the presentation.
The ominous figures represent Sauron’s ring-servants during the Second Age and serve as earlier incarnations of the Nazgûl, or Ringwraiths, familiar to fans from The Lord of the Rings.
Their appearance reinforced the increasingly dark tone of the upcoming season, which centres on Sauron’s growing military campaign across Middle-earth.
Season Three Moves Middle-earth Into Full-Scale War
According to Prime Video, Season Three takes place five years after the fall of Eregion.
Sauron’s armies have spread across much of Middle-earth, leaving only a handful of strongholds standing against the Dark Lord’s advance. Khazad-dûm remains sealed behind its mountain halls, while the elven kingdoms of Lindon and Rivendell continue to resist with the protection of their Three Rings.
Meanwhile, within Barad-dûr, Sauron works relentlessly to complete the One Ring, believing it will secure his domination over all life in Middle-earth.
The story will follow Dwarves, Elves, Men and Wizards as they attempt to unite against the growing threat before it is too late.
Prime Video confirmed that the first four episodes will debut on November 11, followed by Episodes 5 and 6 on November 18, with the season finale arriving on November 25.
Series Continues as a Flagship Title for Prime Video
Produced by showrunners and executive producers J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay, Season Three also features executive producers Lindsey Weber, Justin Doble, Kate Hazell and Charlotte Brändström, who also directs. Matthew Penry-Davey serves as producer, with Ally O’Leary, Tim Keene and Andrew Lee as co-producers.
Since its debut, The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power has become one of Prime Video’s most successful original productions. According to the streaming platform, the series has attracted more than 185 million viewers worldwide, making it one of its strongest drivers of new Prime membership subscriptions.
Prime Video also reports that the first season remains the biggest television series premiere in the platform’s history by viewers during its first 91-day release window, while Season Two ranks among its five most-watched returning seasons. The second season also reached the top position among original streaming series on Nielsen’s Streaming Top 10 chart during its debut.
All 16 episodes from the first two seasons are currently available to stream exclusively on Prime Video in more than 240 countries and territories ahead of the Season Three premiere this November.
