Olivia Williams, Indira Varma, Sophie Skelton and Aidan Gillen Join Guy Ritchie’s Mystery Series
Prime Video has announced four new series regulars for the second season of Young Sherlock, as production officially begins on the next chapter of the mystery drama. The streaming service also released a start-of-production video featuring director Guy Ritchie alongside stars Hero Fiennes Tiffin and Dónal Finn, offering audiences an early look at the upcoming season.
The announcement comes as Prime Video continues to build on the success of the show’s debut season, which attracted millions of viewers worldwide and ranked among the platform’s most-watched original series. Season Two is currently in production, while all eight episodes of Season One remain available exclusively on Prime Video in more than 240 countries and territories.
Acclaimed Actors Join the Expanding Cast
Four New Series Regulars Added
Prime Video confirmed that Olivia Williams, Indira Varma, Sophie Skelton, and Aidan Gillen will join the cast as series regulars for Season Two.
The additions bring extensive experience from acclaimed television and film productions, further strengthening the ensemble led by Hero Fiennes Tiffin as the young detective.
Williams is widely recognized for performances in The Sixth Sense and Rushmore, while more recently appearing in Dune: Prophecy and on the London stage in One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest.
Varma joins following roles in productions including The Night Manager, Doctor Who, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Game of Thrones, Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One, and The Capture.
Skelton is best known for portraying Brianna Randall Fraser throughout the long-running drama Outlander, in addition to recent film appearances including I Can Only Imagine 2 and the British thriller Row.
Gillen, an award-winning Irish actor, brings credits from Game of Thrones, The Wire, Love/Hate, Mayor of Kingstown, Project Blue Book, The Dark Knight Rises, Bohemian Rhapsody, and the Maze Runner film series.
Guy Ritchie Returns to Direct the Opening Episode
Creative Team Continues Behind the Camera
Director Guy Ritchie will once again helm the opening episode of the new season while continuing as an executive producer.
The series is created for television by Matthew Parkhill, who also serves as showrunner and executive producer. Additional executive producers include Marc Resteghini, Dhana Rivera Gilbert, Simon Maxwell, Ivan Atkinson, Simon Kelton, Colin Wilson and Harriet Creelman, with Steve Thompson and James Dormer serving as co-executive producers.
Production continues under Motive Pictures, which leads the physical production of the series.
Season One Delivered Strong Global Performance
Series Reached Millions of Viewers Worldwide
Prime Video reported that Young Sherlock attracted 45 million viewers during its first 28 days of release, making it one of the platform’s top 10 Prime Original seasons of all time.
According to the streaming service, the series reached the number one position in more than 95 countries, with approximately 63% of its audience coming from international markets. Strong viewership was recorded in the United Kingdom, India and Germany.
The first season’s trailer generated 223 million views within its first seven days, setting a Prime Video record as the platform’s most-watched series trailer during that timeframe.
The debut season also received a Certified Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes, with critics offering positive reviews following its release.
Returning Cast Continues the Story
Hero Fiennes Tiffin Leads Ensemble Cast
Hero Fiennes Tiffin returns in the title role for the second season, alongside returning cast members Dónal Finn, Natascha McElhone, Holly Cattle, and Max Irons.
The action-oriented mystery series explores the early life and development of Sherlock Holmes before he becomes the legendary detective, combining investigative storytelling with adventure and contemporary pacing under Guy Ritchie’s creative direction.
While Prime Video has not announced a release date for Season Two, production is now underway following the latest casting announcement.
Prime Video Continues Investment in Original Programming
The expansion of Young Sherlock reflects Prime Video’s continued investment in large-scale original productions designed for global audiences. By combining established actors with returning creative talent and building on a successful first season, the streaming service aims to strengthen one of its fastest-growing original franchises.
As filming progresses, additional casting and release details are expected to be announced ahead of the series’ eventual return to Prime Video.
