Uil and Uila LECCE: “The company must clarify the situation. Maximum commitment to protecting jobs”

The meeting of the workers of the agricultural company ARL “Orti di Puglia” was held yesterday afternoon, Wednesday 27 September, in the Guagnano Town Hall, at the request of the trade union organizations Uil and Uila (Agri-Food Workers). ) from the city of Lecce to address the serious situation related to the well-known Salento company that produces ready-to-eat salads under the brand “Jentu”.

Since last July, the 86 workers, employees and temporary agricultural workers have been suspended from work without any warning, and in mid-September they received direct dismissal letters. The meeting was attended by Mauro Fioretti, Regional Coordinator of Oil Lecce, Antonella Rizzo, Secretary General of Oil Lecce, and the mayors François Imperial (Guagnano) and Alfredo Fina (Campi Salentina). The company’s management was absent and informed through the General Electricity Corporation of its readiness for the meeting on October 9.

“While we wait to finally be able to meet with the senior management from whom we ask for clear and necessary clarifications – say Fioretti and Rizzo – we affirm our maximum commitment to protecting employment levels, taking into account also that the majority of the workers in question are temporary workers, and therefore with very few protections. “We thank the mayors of Guagnano and Campi because they immediately responded to our call by committing to accompany the workers on this difficult path. We will not leave the workers and their families alone.”
