OLG Investment Expected to Strengthen Northern Ontario Economy
SAULT STE. MARIE, ONTARIO — The Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG) is expanding its operations in Sault Ste. Marie, a move expected to create approximately 150 new good-paying jobs over the next three years and provide additional economic benefits for the Northern Ontario community.
The expansion is part of the Ontario government’s broader efforts to support economic growth across the region, strengthen local employment opportunities and ensure communities across Northern Ontario continue to attract investment and skilled workers.
The new positions will increase OLG’s workforce in Sault Ste. Marie by about 12 per cent and are expected to create career opportunities for workers at different stages of their professional journeys, including recent graduates and experienced professionals.

Marie,” said Doug Downey, Attorney General of Ontario and Interim Minister of Tourism, Culture and Gaming. “The expansion of OLG’s workforce and its continued investments in the community reflect our shared commitment to creating jobs and driving long-term economic growth across the region.”
New Positions to Support OLG’s Growing Operations
Workforce Expansion Across Multiple Business Areas
OLG, already recognized as one of Sault Ste. Marie’s largest employers, said the new employment opportunities will support its growing workforce needs while also helping address changing workplace requirements and anticipated retirements.
The new full-time roles will include positions in areas such as operations, product management, corporate services and other business functions. The expansion is expected to provide long-term employment opportunities while supporting the city’s broader economic development goals.
The initiative is also expected to contribute to workforce stability by creating opportunities for local residents to build careers without having to leave the region.
OLG’s Long-Term Economic Contributions to Sault Ste. Marie
Millions Invested Through Community Programs
OLG has maintained a long-standing economic relationship with Sault Ste. Marie through its Municipal Contribution Agreement program, which provides financial support to communities that host land-based casinos.
Since 1999, the city has received nearly $40 million through the program. These funds have supported local priorities, including infrastructure improvements, capital projects, emergency services and other community initiatives designed to improve quality of life and strengthen the local economy.
Beyond employment and municipal contributions, OLG has also supported the community through sponsorships and partnerships. The organization has contributed more than $2.5 million to local events and initiatives, while helping support hundreds of additional jobs through its network of vendors, retailers and community partners.

The provincial government said it will continue working with communities, businesses and organizations across Northern Ontario to build a stronger and more resilient economy.
The latest OLG expansion represents another investment in Sault Ste. Marie’s workforce and economic future, providing additional opportunities for residents while supporting the region’s ability to attract and retain talent.
With new employment opportunities and continued investment from organizations operating in the community, provincial officials said the goal is to ensure Northern Ontario remains a place where people can pursue careers, raise families and contribute to local communities.
