Espoo, Finland — Nokia has announced a four-year contract extension with TNN in Denmark, solidifying its role as the sole supplier of 5G radio access networks (RAN) and managed services. The renewed partnership positions both companies to advance Denmark’s 5G infrastructure with artificial intelligence (AI) and autonomous technologies, aiming to enhance network performance, efficiency, and customer experience.
Under the agreement, Nokia will continue leading the modernization of TNN’s nationwide 5G network, supporting more than three million Danish mobile users. The project will incorporate advanced AI-powered and automation-driven capabilities, designed to improve service quality, speed, and capacity while enabling new digital services and enterprise applications. TNN operates as Denmark’s largest shared mobile network, a joint venture between telecommunications providers Norlys and Telenor.
Modernizing Denmark’s 5G Backbone
Nokia’s contribution to the network upgrade will be built on its energy-efficient AirScale Radio Access Network (RAN) portfolio, known for its performance and scalability. The deployment includes the company’s latest Habrok Massive MIMO radios and Pandion multi-band remote radio heads (RRH), which will support a variety of deployment environments across Denmark.
To handle growing traffic demands, Nokia will also deliver its AirScale baseband solutions — Ponente, Lodos, and Levante — powered by the company’s ReefShark System-on-Chip (SoC) technology. These components promise superior scalability, reliability, and energy efficiency, key to supporting Denmark’s expanding 5G ecosystem.
The equipment’s design aligns with both companies’ sustainability goals, emphasizing reduced energy consumption without compromising network performance.
AI and Automation Take Centre Stage
Beyond hardware, the renewed partnership focuses heavily on integrating AI and automation into TNN’s network management systems. Nokia will deploy its MantaRay SON (Self-Organizing Network) platform, supported by MantaRay AutoPilot, an AI-driven orchestration system that autonomously optimizes network performance in real time.
These systems aim to streamline operations, minimize downtime, and reduce operational costs, creating what the company describes as an “autonomous, AI-powered 5G network.” Nokia’s Managed Services division will oversee the optimization, helping TNN simplify day-to-day network management while improving service reliability and efficiency.
“We are focused on delivering the best network to our customers across Denmark. That is why we continue to invest in best-in-class mobile network infrastructure to improve the network performance and customer experience. Partnering with Nokia will provide us with an autonomous, AI-powered 5G network enabling us to offer the best services to our customers and embracing the opportunities of 5G and beyond,” said Daniel Askeroth, SVP Telco, Norlys.
“Renewing our 5G partnership with Nokia marks a significant step forward in delivering seamless, high-performance connectivity to our customers. This collaboration empowers us to accelerate innovation, enhance network resilience, and bring transformative digital experiences to homes and businesses across Denmark,” added Louise Haurum, Chief Technology Officer, Telenor Denmark.
Expanding Innovation and Efficiency
For Nokia, the extended partnership highlights both its technological leadership and strategic role in Europe’s next-generation connectivity landscape. “This enhanced deal with TNN reflects our strong partnership and Nokia’s position as a trusted technology provider delivering industry-leading 5G solutions and advanced AI and automation capabilities for enhanced operational efficiency and network quality,” said Mark Atkinson, Head of Radio Access Network at Nokia.
He added that Nokia’s efforts are aimed at helping TNN “expand 5G coverage and capacity to deliver best-in-class connectivity experiences and new digital services to its customers.”
The contract underscores a growing shift among European network operators toward leveraging AI-driven automation to manage increasingly complex mobile ecosystems. As mobile data usage continues to rise and enterprises embrace cloud-based and IoT applications, automation tools like Nokia’s MantaRay are becoming central to maintaining network stability and scaling efficiently.
Strengthening Denmark’s Digital Economy
The rollout is already underway, marking another milestone in Denmark’s transition toward a fully digital and AI-enabled economy. With a focus on efficiency and sustainability, the upgraded infrastructure will not only benefit consumers but also bolster the country’s competitiveness in high-speed connectivity, smart manufacturing, and emerging digital services.
Nokia’s AirScale and MantaRay solutions are also designed to prepare TNN’s network for future technological advancements, including 6G readiness and deeper integration of AI in network orchestration.
As a global technology leader, Nokia continues to strengthen its presence in the Nordic market. The Finnish company — which describes itself as “a B2B technology innovation leader pioneering networks that sense, think and act” — has maintained a long-standing partnership with TNN and its parent operators, supporting Denmark’s digital development for more than a decade.
With this new agreement, Nokia and TNN are setting the stage for the next era of 5G in Denmark — one defined by intelligent automation, sustainable operations, and a customer experience shaped by AI-powered innovation.
