Denver power metal festival calls off August event and issues full ticket refunds
Denver’s Mile High Power Fest, one of the western United States’ emerging destinations for power metal fans, has announced the cancellation of its 2026 edition due to health issues affecting the event’s organizer.
The festival, which had been scheduled to take place on Aug. 15, 2026, at The Oriental Theater in Denver, was expected to feature a lineup of established and rising acts from across the North American metal scene. Organizers confirmed that all ticket holders will receive full refunds.
Organizers cite health-related challenges
The cancellation comes after months of planning and anticipation surrounding what organizers described as the festival’s most ambitious edition to date.
In a statement announcing the decision, festival organizers said:
“Unfortunately, due to health reasons of our organizer, we had to make the difficult decision to cancel the fest this year. We are heartbroken to have come to this decision but know it is what is best. Please support the bands, as each of them deserves the love. All tickets purchased will be refunded. For upcoming power metal fests, go support our homies at GrillFest & Mad With Power.”
The announcement brings an abrupt end to preparations for an event that had been expected to draw fans from across the United States and Canada.
Festival built a growing reputation in the power metal community
Founded by Denver-based BiteSize Productions, Mile High Power Fest has spent the past three years developing a dedicated following within the heavy metal community.
The festival has focused on showcasing both internationally recognized acts and emerging artists while helping strengthen the power metal scene in the Rocky Mountain region. Previous editions featured performances from bands including Seven Spires, Lords of the Trident, Graveshadow, Aether Realm, Glyph, Owlbear and Empress.
Those appearances helped establish the festival as a notable gathering for fans of power metal and related genres, attracting audiences from across North America and contributing to Denver’s growing reputation as a destination for underground and independent metal events.
Strong lineup had been planned for 2026
The canceled 2026 festival was set to feature a diverse lineup spanning power metal, folk metal, melodic death metal and hard rock.
Headlining acts included The Dread Crew of Oddwood, an independent folk-metal group known for its acoustic-driven “Heavy Mahogany” sound, and Pittsburgh heavy metal outfit Lady Beast.
Other scheduled performers included Los Angeles power-thrash band Anubis, Boston-based melodic death metal act Ice Giant, Denver’s Hel Hath Fury, Colorado battle-metal group Darconigan and Colorado Springs hard rock band Wicked Vixen.
The lineup reflected the festival’s commitment to blending established touring acts with regional performers, offering audiences a broad representation of contemporary metal music.
Bands continue to gain momentum despite cancellation
Several of the artists scheduled to perform are currently experiencing significant momentum in their respective careers.
The Dread Crew of Oddwood recently returned with its fifth studio album, Rust & Glory, following years of writing and recording. The Southern California group has toured extensively throughout North America and Europe and has built an international audience through festival appearances and major support tours.
Meanwhile, Anubis continues to expand its profile within the power and thrash metal scenes. The Los Angeles band released its latest album, Anthromorphicide, in April and has shared stages with numerous internationally recognized metal acts.
Regional artists such as Hel Hath Fury, Darconigan and Wicked Vixen were also expected to benefit from exposure at the event, highlighting the festival’s role in supporting Colorado’s local music community.
Focus shifts to supporting artists and future events
Although Mile High Power Fest will not proceed in 2026, organizers are encouraging fans to continue supporting the artists who were scheduled to perform and to remain engaged with the broader power metal community.
The festival specifically recommended that fans consider attending GrillFest and Mad With Power, two events that continue to serve the North American power metal scene.
For ticket holders, organizers confirmed that all purchased tickets will be fully refunded.
While the cancellation represents a setback for Denver’s metal community and for fans who had planned to attend, the festival’s organizers have indicated that supporting the artists remains their immediate priority as they navigate the challenges that led to the decision.
Community support remains strong
The cancellation underscores the challenges faced by independently operated music festivals, many of which rely heavily on small organizing teams and volunteer support. Despite the disappointment surrounding the announcement, Mile High Power Fest leaves behind a growing legacy as a community-driven event that helped elevate both local and international metal talent.
For now, fans and artists alike will look toward future opportunities to keep the spirit of the festival alive while wishing the organizer a full recovery.
