Singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Maiah Wynne has released her new studio album, Into the Waves, alongside a music video for the single Girl Dinner. The 12-track project features contributions from several musicians, including Canadian guitarist Alex Lifeson of Rush, and will be followed by a special album launch performance in London on October 14, 2026.
Available digitally and on CD, the album reflects a period of significant personal and professional change for Wynne. A vinyl edition is scheduled for release on October 30, pairing the new recording with her 2024 album, Out of the Dark.
‘Into the Waves’ Reflects Personal Change and Musical Exploration
Wynne wrote, self-produced and recorded much of Into the Waves while navigating several major transitions, including her first international tour, relocating internationally, returning to education and rebuilding her life following an extended period of isolation.
Much of the recording process took place while travelling, with several tracks developed in hotel rooms using a laptop and portable recording equipment.
Wynne performed more than a dozen instruments throughout the project, taking a central role in its songwriting, arrangements and production.
Additional production and mixing were completed by Justin Abel, whose previous credits include Noelle Johnson and The Talbott Brothers. Mastering was handled by Alan Douches, who has worked with artists including Sufjan Stevens, Motörhead and LCD Soundsystem.
Alex Lifeson Among Album’s Featured Collaborators
The album brings together musicians from different backgrounds, including cellist Bethany Joyce, violinist Avelyn Reynolds, guitarist Brooks Berg, drummers Adam Brzycki and Randy Cooke, and flugelhorn player Henry Sheppard.
Canadian guitarist Alex Lifeson also contributes a guest guitar performance, extending his creative relationship with Wynne, who serves as vocalist for his band Envy of None.
Speaking to Rolling Stone, Lifeson remarked: “I’ve never had that kind of inspiration working with another musician.”
The collaboration connects Wynne’s independent songwriting career with her work alongside one of Canada’s most recognizable rock musicians.
‘Girl Dinner’ Addresses Political and Social Frustration
Alongside the album, Wynne released Girl Dinner, a song addressing political influence, economic inequality and international conflict through a satirical approach.
Describing the track, Wynne said:
“There is so much I want to say and will say, but for now, this song is a tongue in cheek protest tune I wrote for a little cathartic release. Playing this song on tour with the audience singing along was one of the most meaningful experiences I have ever had through music, and I tried to capture that feeling in the recording. Hopefully, it can be a moment of catharsis for those listening too. The more divided our world becomes, the more important it is for us to reconnect through any means we can. I think there is always hope to be found in a song.”
The accompanying music video was edited by George Laycock at Blacktide Productions.
The release follows live performances during which Wynne said audiences responded strongly to the song’s themes.
Album Features 12 Tracks and Multiple Physical Editions
Into the Waves contains 12 songs, including Nothing Stays The Same, Satellites, In A Dream, Creatures In The Night, False Gods, See The Water, Underwater and Breathe.
The track Another Step features guest vocalist Dan Avidan, while Girl Dinner closes the album.
The CD edition includes an eight-page printed booklet.
Vinyl Release Scheduled for October 30
Two double-LP vinyl editions are scheduled for October 30.
One features purple and transparent turquoise records, while the other uses traditional black vinyl. Both gatefold editions include Into the Waves and Wynne’s 2024 album Out of the Dark, which will be available on vinyl for the first time.
Maiah Wynne Announces London Album Launch Performance
Wynne will celebrate the release with an intimate concert at Piano Smithfield in London on Wednesday, October 14.
The performance will feature material from Into the Waves alongside selections from her earlier catalogue.
The concert and forthcoming vinyl editions extend the album’s release campaign, highlighting Wynne’s development as a solo artist while maintaining her connections with established musicians in the international rock community.
