Danish progressive metal band KINETIC has released a new music video for “Digital Mind,” exploring the consequences of transferring human consciousness into a virtual world. The video accompanies the group’s debut full-length concept album, Liminal, released October 16, 2026, through Eclipse Records.
Directed by keyboardist Marcus H. Levin, the video examines the psychological and philosophical implications of digital immortality, portraying a future in which individuals abandon their physical bodies in pursuit of permanent existence within a technological network.
The release marks the third music video from Liminal, following earlier visual productions for “Evolution” and “Dyson.”
“Digital Mind” Examines the Human Cost of Technological Immortality
The “Digital Mind” video follows a character confronting the decision to leave the physical world and transfer his consciousness into a digital environment.
Throughout the production, visual distortions and glitch effects illustrate the gradual transition between biological and virtual existence. Photographs and personal memories become increasingly unstable, reflecting the character’s changing relationship with his past.
“As in the previous music videos, the video contains both obvious symbols and details that require a little more digging to uncover.” explains keyboardist Marcus. “The central visual symbol throughout the video is the band itself gradually glitching and distorting digitally. This represents the slow transition from a physical state into a digital one, mirroring the transformation taking place within the story. At the beginning, the main character is seen looking through old photographs and memories. This represents him coming to terms with his decision to leave the physical world behind and upload his consciousness into the digital realm. The memories themselves begin to glitch, suggesting that the decision has already been made on some level – and that the digital world is beginning to lure him in.”
The video combines performance footage with digital effects to communicate its central themes of identity, memory and technological dependence.
‘Liminal’ Builds a Science-Fiction Narrative Around Human Civilization
Released through Eclipse Records, Liminal contains 11 tracks spanning approximately 106 minutes. The album represents a substantial expansion of KINETIC’s musical approach following its 2025 debut EP, Sentience.
The project follows an interconnected narrative exploring humanity’s technological development, its expansion beyond Earth and the philosophical consequences of increasingly advanced civilization.
The Kardashev Scale Shapes the Album’s Concept
A central inspiration for Liminal is the Kardashev Scale, a theoretical framework developed by Soviet astrophysicist Nikolai Kardashev to classify civilizations according to their ability to harness energy.
KINETIC incorporates this scientific concept into compositions addressing technological progress, space exploration and the future of human existence.
Rather than relying primarily on conventional verse-and-chorus arrangements, the band uses extended instrumental passages, progressive structures and atmospheric transitions to develop the narrative.
The group’s sound combines elements of progressive metal and experimental rock, drawing comparisons with established acts including Tool, Pink Floyd and Dream Theater.
