Vancouver Metal Band Expands National Reach With New Album, Cross-Canada Tour and Festival Appearances
Vancouver heavy metal band Iron Kingdom is preparing for a major year as it launches its latest single and music video, “Deadhouse Gates,” ahead of the release of its sixth studio album, Shadows and Dust, scheduled for June 6, 2026 through Steel Shark Records.
The new single follows the earlier releases “Defenders” and “Blood and Steel,” continuing the band’s signature blend of traditional heavy metal influences, narrative songwriting and melodic guitar work. The launch comes as the Vancouver-based group marks its 15th anniversary and prepares for what it describes as its largest national tour to date.
According to bassist Leighton Holmes, the latest track draws heavily from fantasy literature, specifically Malazan Book of the Fallen by author Steven Erikson.
Literary Themes Shape New Single
“Deadhouse Gates is based on Malazan Book of the Fallen by Steven Erikson. The Deadhouse is a seemingly abandoned house in Malaz City that serves as a conduit to other planes of existence and is used by two mortals to ascend to godhood as rulers of Shadow. The song tells the story of ancient power waiting for those worthy, or crafty, enough to gain entry, but warns of the dangers presented to the unprepared. Straying from the path means an eternity of torment and imprisonment, but the chance for power is enticing. The dead trees scattered across the yard of the house hide those that are unsuccessful in their roots. It is a cautionary tale of reach exceeding grasp as well as an inspirational story of striving towards greatness.”
Frontman Chris Osterman described the song in simpler terms, emphasizing its energy and accessibility.
“This one is just a total rock n’ roll song, some great leads and melodies, and just overall, I think very catchy!”
The video release forms part of a broader promotional campaign surrounding Shadows and Dust, an album recorded entirely in the band’s newly completed home studio in Vancouver. The record explores themes of mortality, perseverance and emotional resilience, reflecting a darker but ultimately hopeful tone.
“Shadows and Dust” Marks Key Milestone for the Band
The album represents Iron Kingdom’s first release through Steel Shark Records, which plans a limited European edition capped at 300 double-CD copies. The special edition will include the full album alongside a “Best Of” compilation featuring material from the band’s previous releases. The label is also issuing a third vinyl variant exclusive to European fans.
Osterman said the emotional direction of the album was intentional and rooted in real-life struggles.
“This album plays in quite a dark realm of topics… but I also think that’s exactly what will make this album accessible to people going through tougher times… The music shows hope for a positive way out, and hopefully offers the listener the will to fight on.”
The June 6 release date was also selected deliberately, coinciding with the 82nd anniversary of D-Day, a historical reference the band viewed as symbolically significant.
Vancouver Headline Show Launches National Tour
Iron Kingdom will officially launch the album with a headline performance at Vancouver’s Rickshaw Theatre on June 5, 2026. The concert is expected to be the group’s largest hometown performance to date.
“To feel in some way that we have worked our way up to headline a venue of that size is very exciting, and we cannot wait to bring our biggest show yet!”
Following the Vancouver show, the band will embark on the “True North Strong And Heavy Canadian Tour,” spanning multiple provinces and territories from British Columbia to Newfoundland and Labrador. The schedule also includes appearances at Armstrong Metal Fest and Loud As Hell Open Air Festival.
The extensive tour reflects Iron Kingdom’s long-running DIY approach to touring and fan engagement. Since forming in 2011, the group has built a reputation through independent releases, relentless touring and a commitment to classic heavy metal traditions inspired by bands such as Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Helloween and Rush.
Longstanding Presence in Independent Heavy Metal
Iron Kingdom’s catalogue includes Curse of the Voodoo Queen (2011), Gates of Eternity (2013), Ride for Glory (2015), On the Hunt (2019) and The Blood of Creation (2022). Industry reviewers have consistently highlighted the band’s blend of classic metal structures with modern production.
The upcoming album includes 10 tracks, among them “Defenders,” “Line Of Fire,” “Shadow Of Time” and “Sacred Fire.” Early reviews from metal publications have praised the project’s songwriting consistency and musicianship, with several critics positioning Shadows and Dust as a significant step forward for the band.
As Iron Kingdom prepares for its cross-country tour and album rollout, the group appears focused on expanding its audience while remaining committed to the traditional heavy metal sound that has defined its career over the past decade and a half.
