When there are now less than ten days until release Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.3, a new James Gunn trailer arrives online – taken from what appears to be the expected flashback to Rocket’s origins. In the animated scene we see a young raccoon with his friends. James Gunn presented the clip like this:

These are Rocket’s childhood friends in Counter-Earth. Linda Cardellini is Lily, Michaela Hoover is The Floor, and Asim Chaudhary is Tiffs. In all of the audition shows, their friendship is one of the audience’s favorite aspects.

Gunn also shared a behind-the-scenes photo, captioning:

This is the first day of shooting for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.3. The visual effects process was so intense that we had to shoot all the motion capture and camera pickup first because otherwise it would have taken too long to finish. It was a really complicated process, but the cast was amazing, and the editors knew we’d achieved something amazing before we even started animating a one-shot.

Who did this to Rocket and his friends? It is abouthigh evolutionary (Chukwudi Iwuji), a man Gunn describes as “the best villain in the Guardians saga: I’ve never seen a villain so hated by people in other Marvel movies. Audiences will hate it. I think it’s because he’s cruel to animals. He’s really a bastard, and he was a bastard.” With Rocket.Rocket was a child, an innocent little creature. He almost looks like a father figure to her, but he is mean. […] The High Evolutionary created them, and they know he’s building this new world out there, this new society, and they talk about how they got out there. And in the passage, they began to call themselves, and they called themselves.

The tragic story of Rocket’s past was conceived before Star-Lord met him in the first film: “It was very important to me to tell it, because that’s what prompted me to write the first film. I had concepts of every creature, and I had a vision of this terrible past that marked This little, innocent creature, turned into something it wasn’t meant to be, torn apart and put back together. His life has been incredibly painful and he’s been incredibly lonely because there’s no one like him. That’s where the idea for Rocket was born.”

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.3 It was written and directed by James Gunn and stars Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan, Pom Klementieff, with Vin Diesel as Groot and Bradley Cooper as Rocket in the original, plus Sean Gunn, Chukodi Eugey, Will Poulter and Maria Bakalova. The film is produced by Kevin Feige, with Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Nicholas Korda, Simon Hutt, and Sarah Smith as executive producers.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.3 It will be in theaters on May 3. Find all the news about Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.3 in our tab.
