Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth will have combat system Where allies will be provided with AI that is more useful and proactive in battle, aiming Beating the Final Fantasy XII gambit. At least that’s what Satoru Koyama, the lead battle programmer on Final Fantasy 7 Remake, announced in an interview included in Final Fantasy VII Remake Ultimania, the game’s official book published by Square Enix.

Specifically, Koyama explained that in Final Fantasy 7 Remake, AI-guided companions are limited to performing normal attacks, leaving the player with the task of switching from one character to another to perform spells, skills, and so on. But in the second installment, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, the main battle programmer aims to make More active allies in battle.

“With Final Fantasy 7 Remake, we succeeded in having AI-controlled team members only be able to execute the attack command to allow players to switch between characters during combat,” Koyama said. However, with the next game I would like to create an AI capable of this Match up a variety of styles and spells. My goal is to bypass Final Fantasy XII’s maneuvering system.”

It’s interesting that Koyama mentioned maneuvering, which seems to indicate that players in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth will be able to select what actions they’ll have to perform in battle and in what situations through a special menu.

For starters, the maneuver is one of the most important mechanics on which Final Fantasy 12 is based. Through this system, players can basically create the routine approved by AI-guided companions in battle at will, through a series of commands that will be generated and assigned to slots, and then literally followed in combat. A well-structured Gambit will probably allow you to end battles without even pressing a button, while the characters will not perform any action without a direct command from the player.

Koyama also added that he wanted to create a genre Classic modewhere characters fight automatically, to accommodate players who are not familiar with action games.

I’d also like to focus more energy on aspects that support player control, such as Classic mode, where characters fight automatically. I think it’s a shame people can’t play a game they’re interested in just because they’re “not skilled with practical mechanics.”

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is currently in development for PS5, and is expected to launch in… next winterso at the end of the year or in the first months of 2024.
