City Advises Residents of Traffic and Parking Restrictions Ahead of 2026 Exhibition Parade
PRINCE ALBERT, Saskatchewan — The City of Prince Albert is preparing for temporary road closures, transit detours and parking restrictions in the downtown core as the community gears up for the 2026 Exhibition Parade, the traditional kickoff to the city’s annual summer fair.
City officials are encouraging residents, businesses and motorists to plan ahead for travel on Tuesday, August 4, when the parade will take place beginning at 6 p.m. Temporary traffic measures will be implemented throughout the afternoon to ensure public safety and facilitate the event.
The annual parade is one of Prince Albert’s signature summer events, drawing families, community organizations and local businesses together before the opening of the Prince Albert Exhibition.
Parade Route Through Downtown
The parade will begin at the intersection of Central Avenue and 14 Street East before proceeding north along Central Avenue. Participants will then continue east on River Street toward 6 Avenue East, where the procession will conclude at the intersection of 6 Avenue East and Exhibition Drive.
Barricades will be installed along the entire parade route to manage vehicle traffic and protect parade participants and spectators. Motorists should expect temporary road closures as the event progresses through the downtown area.
Drivers travelling near Central Avenue and surrounding streets are encouraged to allow additional travel time or consider alternate routes during the event.
Parking Restrictions Begin Mid-Afternoon
To accommodate parade preparations, parking will be prohibited along Central Avenue and adjacent side streets beginning in the middle of the afternoon on Tuesday.
Vehicles remaining in restricted areas may need to be relocated to ensure the parade route remains clear and safe before participants assemble.
Residents and visitors planning to attend the parade are encouraged to arrive early and use designated parking areas outside the restricted zones.
Transit Services to Follow Detours
The City also advised that public transit services operating through the downtown core will follow temporary detours while parade-related road closures are in effect.
Transit users should expect minor schedule adjustments and are encouraged to plan accordingly when travelling during the afternoon and early evening. Normal transit operations are expected to resume once roads along the parade route have reopened.
Annual Exhibition Begins August 5
The Exhibition Parade marks the official opening celebration for the Prince Albert Exhibition, one of the region’s largest annual summer events.
Following Tuesday’s parade, the Prince Albert Exhibition will run from August 5 through August 9 at the Prince Albert Exhibition Grounds. The multi-day fair traditionally features agricultural exhibits, entertainment, family attractions, midway rides, food vendors and community programming, attracting visitors from across central Saskatchewan.
City officials are asking residents to cooperate with traffic control personnel, observe posted parking restrictions and exercise caution when travelling near the parade route to help ensure a safe and successful event.
With thousands of spectators expected to line the streets, the temporary traffic measures are intended to minimize disruptions while supporting one of Prince Albert’s long-standing summer traditions.
