Canadian blues talent takes centre stage at sold-out annual celebration
The Escarpment Blues Society (EBS) is set to celebrate its third anniversary with a high-profile gala concert in Ancaster, Ontario, bringing together some of Canada’s most respected blues musicians for an evening that underscores the organization’s growing influence in the country’s live music scene.
Scheduled for May 26, 2026, at the Ancaster Memorial Arts Centre, the “3rd Degree Gala” continues a tradition established since the society’s launch in 2023—an annual showcase of blues and roots music timed to mark its founding. With a lineup featuring Morgan Davis, Miss Angel Brown, Shawn Kellerman, Kim Doolittle, Lily Sazz, Steve Strongman, Chris Ayries, and Roly Platt, organizers say the event reflects both artistic excellence and community engagement.
Building a regional hub for blues music
The Escarpment Blues Society has positioned itself as a regional driver of blues culture in Southern Ontario, leveraging annual events and partnerships to build momentum within Canada’s independent music ecosystem.
“Since the Big Launch of the Escarpment Blues Society in 2023, tradition has kept May as the Anniversary date to celebrate Blues and Roots music with a stellar lineup of world class musicians.” says Ken Wallis, President of the Escarpment Blues Society. “This is the third edition of the EBS celebration, and it is a concert that continues to salute the very best music has to offer.”
Backed by the EBS Allstars—Dave King on drums, Colin Lapsley on bass, and Jesse O’Brien on keyboards—the gala aims to deliver a cohesive performance experience while supporting individual artists. The collaborative format is increasingly common in Canada’s blues circuit, where shared stages help expand audience reach and manage touring costs.
A showcase of national talent and community support
The 2026 edition places a strong emphasis on Canadian talent, aligning with broader industry trends that favour domestic touring circuits amid rising international travel costs for performers.
“I’m thrilled to be the artistic director of the Escarpment Blues Society’s Third Gala”, says Steve Strongman. “This year’s lineup consists of world class talent from across Canada. It’s a pleasure to get to be onstage with these incredible performers. The EBS is very excited to support the Good Shepherd with the auction of a Godin guitar, made exclusively in Canada. This will be a night to remember !”
In addition to the musical program, the event incorporates a charitable component through a guitar auction benefiting Good Shepherd, a Hamilton-based social service organization. The inclusion of a Canadian-made Godin guitar highlights a continued effort to support domestic manufacturing alongside the arts.
Strong demand signals continued growth
Tickets for the event are priced at $62.72 plus HST and are available online and through the venue’s box office, with discounts offered to society members, pointing to sustained demand for live blues performances in the region.
Doors open at 7:00 p.m., with the show beginning at 7:30 p.m. The Ancaster Memorial Arts Centre, located at 357 Wilson Street East, serves as the host venue, providing a mid-sized performance space suited for both community events and professional touring acts.
Momentum in Canada’s live music sector
The continued success of events like the EBS anniversary gala reflects a broader recovery and growth trend in Canada’s live music industry, particularly within niche genres such as blues and roots. Industry observers note that regional organizations like EBS play a critical role in sustaining artist visibility outside major metropolitan hubs.
By combining established performers with community-driven initiatives, the Escarpment Blues Society has carved out a sustainable model that balances cultural impact with audience engagement.
As anticipation builds for this year’s gala, organizers are encouraging early ticket purchases, citing strong advance interest and limited seating capacity.
With a blend of high-calibre musicianship, community support, and a proven track record of sold-out performances, the 3rd Anniversary Gala is poised to reinforce the Escarpment Blues Society’s standing as a key player in Canada’s blues music landscape.
