Two-Day Festival in Millet to Feature Riot City, The Convalescence, Squidhammer and More Than Two Dozen Performers
Western Canada’s underground metal scene is preparing for one of its signature summer events as Decimate Metalfest (DMF) returns to the Millet Agriplex Arena in Millet, Alberta, on June 26 and 27, 2026. The all-ages festival is expected to draw music fans, artists and performers from across Canada and the United States for a weekend celebrating heavy music, independent arts and community engagement.
What began as a grassroots gathering for metal enthusiasts has evolved into a multi-day cultural event that combines live music, visual arts, family-friendly activities and community programming. Organizers say the festival’s continued growth reflects increasing interest in Canada’s independent music scene and the strength of Alberta’s underground metal community.
A Diverse Lineup Across Two Days
This year’s festival will feature 26 performing acts spanning a range of metal and alternative genres. The lineup includes internationally touring artists, Canadian bands, youth performers, specialty entertainers and a featured DJ.
Friday night’s program will be headlined by Ohio-based deathcore act The Convalescence and Wisconsin metal group Squidhammer. Supporting performers include Edmonton’s Anomalyptic, Valley of Despair and Kilusan, Calgary’s Godfall and youth metal band Pollux, as well as Michigan-based Let It Rot.
Saturday expands the event into a full-day festival experience, led by Calgary heavy metal band Riot City. The day will also feature performances by Famous Strangers from Sherwood Park, Cries of Blood from Montreal, No Faith In Fortune from Vancouver and From Beneath from Winnipeg, among others.
One of the festival’s unique traditions returns with Kill the Eclipse, the event’s “Fundraiser Band.” The rotating act is selected from performers who participated in DMF fundraising events throughout the year, reinforcing the festival’s community-focused approach.
Organizers say attendees can expect professional staging, high-quality sound production and a variety of amenities designed to make the event accessible to both dedicated metal fans and families attending together.
More Than Music
Beyond the concert stage, Decimate Metalfest offers a broader cultural experience. Festival activities include independent art vendors, interactive entertainment, community gatherings, free tented camping and the traditional Saturday pancake breakfast.
Featured performers this year include Mistress of Ceremonies Birthday Girl, Edmonton burlesque performer Lust Dust – Hazzardous Material, Calgary drag performer Harlot and New York-based DJ Alex Kayne.
The festival also continues its emphasis on youth participation. Young performers will take the stage alongside established acts, while children under 10 will be admitted free of charge. Organizers say the policy reflects the event’s commitment to accessibility and multi-generational engagement.
Fan-favourite air guitar competitions for both youth and adults are also scheduled to return during the weekend festivities.
Growing International Recognition
Festival organizers report a significant increase in international interest ahead of the 2026 edition. Performer submissions were received from 15 countries, eight Canadian provinces and 25 U.S. states, highlighting the event’s expanding profile within the global underground metal community.
While the festival remains rooted in Alberta, its reach now extends well beyond Western Canada. Organizers say the combination of grassroots values, artist support and an inclusive atmosphere has helped establish Decimate Metalfest as a recognized destination within independent heavy music circles.
The event is also notable for being organized and operated by women, a distinction that continues to challenge perceptions within the traditionally male-dominated metal industry.
Building Community Through Music
Festival founder Sloan Voxx said the event’s success is ultimately driven by the community that has supported it since its inception.
“What started as a small idea has grown into something far bigger than any one of us,” says Decimate Metalfest founder Sloan Voxx. “Seeing artists, volunteers, sponsors, and fans all come together to build this community is incredibly humbling. I am honored to be part of something that brings so many people together and creates a space where anyone can connect through heavy music and feel a sense of belonging. At the end of the day, Decimate Metalfest belongs to the community that built it. Whether you are discovering your first metal band, playing your first festival stage, or returning as a longtime fan, everyone is welcome.”
Community Support and Industry Partnerships
Decimate Metalfest 2026 is supported by a network of municipal partners, local businesses, arts organizations and media outlets. Sponsors and partners include the Town of Millet, Millet Agriplex, Millet Lions Memorial Campground, Alberta Music, CJSW 90.9FM and several regional businesses and music industry organizations.
The festival is also a member of the Western Canadian Metal Festival Alliance, working alongside events such as the Loud As Hell Open Air Festival, Armstrong MetalFest, Hyperspace Metal Festival and Glacial Mutilation Metal Festival to strengthen Canada’s independent metal ecosystem.
With a growing audience, expanding international recognition and a strong focus on community participation, Decimate Metalfest is positioned to deliver another successful edition in 2026 while continuing to showcase the vitality of Western Canada’s underground music and arts culture.
