TORONTO, The Ontario government has announced an investment of more than $13 million through its Youth Opportunities Fund to support nearly 40 community-based projects aimed at improving opportunities for children, young people and families across the province.
Administered by the Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF), the funding will help grassroots organizations expand mentorship programs, strengthen family support networks, improve access to employment opportunities and connect vulnerable youth with essential community services.
The investment is part of Ontario’s broader efforts to address social and economic barriers affecting young people while supporting locally developed initiatives that respond to community needs.
Funding to Strengthen Youth Development and Family Support
The Youth Opportunities Fund provides financial assistance through three funding streams: Youth Innovations, Family Innovations and System Innovations.
These programs support youth-led initiatives, culturally relevant family services and projects designed to improve the systems that serve children and families.
“Local volunteers and community leaders are the backbone of thriving communities,” said Michael Parsa, Minister of Children, Community and Social Services. “That’s why our government is investing in grassroots initiatives that are making a real difference, helping more children, youth and families reach their full potential.”
In addition to financial assistance, successful applicants receive specialized coaching, mentorship and networking opportunities intended to strengthen their organizations and improve long-term program delivery.
Programs Focus on Education, Employment and Community Connections
The latest funding recipients will deliver initiatives designed to help young people remain engaged in education, develop practical skills and prepare for employment.
Supported activities include career guidance, job shadowing, mentorship and access to community-based employment resources.
Other projects will connect families with cultural programs, social services and community networks that promote well-being and stronger relationships.
The government says these initiatives are particularly important for young people and families experiencing social or economic challenges.
Community Organizations Receive Multi-Year Grants
Among the organizations receiving funding is Ontario Families for Disability Justice, which has been awarded $213,700 over three years.
The organization will support parents, guardians and caregivers of children and youth with autism and intellectual or developmental disabilities in the Greater Toronto Area and surrounding communities.
Its programs will include peer support circles, educational workshops, crisis navigation assistance and guidance on accessing education, healthcare, mental health, child welfare and justice services.
The initiative aims to strengthen caregivers’ confidence, advocacy skills and support networks.
Another recipient, the Vision Quest Project, will receive $299,000 over three years to support Indigenous families in the Muskoka and Renfrew regions.
The project will provide virtual workshops facilitated by an Indigenous social worker, Elder-led sharing circles, cultural retreats, traditional skills activities and individualized family support.
These services are intended to strengthen Indigenous parenting knowledge, cultural connections, family relationships and community resilience.
Ontario Youth Opportunities Fund Approaches $135 Million in Investments
Since 2018, the Youth Opportunities Fund has supported more than 392 community projects across Ontario, backed by nearly $135 million in provincial funding.
The Ontario Trillium Foundation works with grassroots organizations and community partnerships to help them develop sustainable programs and expand their reach.
“Through the Youth Opportunities Fund, OTF continues to provide essential grants and capacity-building support to grassroots groups and collaboratives led by and serving youth and their families, parents and caregivers. This year’s grant recipients are advancing important work in communities across Ontario, from urban centres and rural areas to Northern and remote communities,” said Bob Chant, Chair of OTF’s Board of Directors.
Applications Open for 2027 Funding Opportunities
Organizations interested in future funding can apply through the program’s three grant streams.
Applications for the System Innovations stream are currently open and will close on March 10, 2027.
Applications for the Youth Innovations and Family Innovations streams will open on February 3, 2027, with a submission deadline of July 7, 2027.
The Youth Innovations stream supports young people facing social and economic barriers, while Family Innovations focuses on culturally grounded initiatives for parents and caregivers. System Innovations funds research and collaborative strategies aimed at improving services and achieving broader systemic change.
With the latest investment, Ontario aims to strengthen community-led services, expand opportunities for disadvantaged youth and help families access resources that support long-term stability and well-being.
