Portland, Oregon-based punk rock band Guerrilla Teens have released their latest EP, Sympathy for the Decibel, on October 16, 2026, through Sonic Jett Records. The new recording continues the five-piece group’s exploration of garage punk, classic rock ’n’ roll and the raw energy associated with the American underground music scene.
Led by vocalist Scott “Deluxe” Drake and guitarist Jeff Fieldhouse, Guerrilla Teens bring decades of experience to the project. The musicians previously performed together in The Humpers, a Southern California garage-punk band that gained recognition during the 1990s and released music through Epitaph Records.
The new EP follows the band’s earlier recordings, Under the Dagger (2023) and The Monkey’s Paw (2025), extending a catalogue that combines traditional punk influences with contemporary songwriting.
Guerrilla Teens Build on Decades of West Coast Punk Rock History
Guerrilla Teens feature Drake on vocals, Fieldhouse and Saul Koll on guitars, Tim Connolly on drums and Anna Andersen on bass.
The band’s origins are closely connected to the Southern California punk scene, particularly the musical partnership between Drake and Fieldhouse.
During the 1990s, the pair performed with The Humpers at venues including Al’s Bar in downtown Los Angeles. The venue, located within the historic American Hotel, served as a gathering place for musicians, artists and members of the city’s underground cultural community.
The Humpers developed a sound influenced by early rock ’n’ roll performers such as Little Richard and Chuck Berry, alongside punk and proto-punk acts including The Stooges and New York Dolls.
Their music eventually reached audiences throughout the United States and Europe, establishing a foundation for the musicians’ subsequent projects.
From The Humpers to Portland’s Underground Music Scene
Following their years in Southern California, Drake and Fieldhouse remained active in several musical projects, including Suicide Kings and The Lovesores.
Their collaboration eventually continued in Portland, where the circumstances surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic provided an opportunity to develop new material.
What initially began as a potential EP project expanded into Guerrilla Teens, bringing together musicians with established connections to Portland’s independent rock community.
Koll previously performed with The Lovesores and 8-Foot Tender, while Connolly and Andersen contributed experience from groups including The Epoxies and The Suicide Notes.
The resulting lineup combines musicians from different periods of West Coast punk history while maintaining a distinct identity from their previous bands.
‘Sympathy for the Decibel’ Combines Garage Punk and Classic Rock Influences
The latest EP continues Guerrilla Teens’ emphasis on distorted guitars, driving rhythms and melodic songwriting.
Its musical influences draw from 1970s punk, garage rock and traditional rock ’n’ roll, incorporating darker melodic elements and a twin-guitar approach.
Andersen’s backing vocals also contribute to the band’s arrangements, adding another dimension to its guitar-driven sound.
The release highlights three tracks: Sympathy for the Decibel, Ghosts of New Orleans and Spider Bouquet.
According to the promotional materials, these featured recordings contain no explicit language.
A music video for the title track is available on YouTube, while the EP is scheduled for public streaming beginning October 16.
New Release Follows Two Previous Albums
Sympathy for the Decibel arrives after Under the Dagger and The Monkey’s Paw, two recordings that helped establish Guerrilla Teens as a continuing project rather than a revival of the musicians’ earlier work.
The band has also maintained a live performance presence, sharing concert bills with Me First and the Gimme Gimmes, The Lords of Altamont and The Briefs.
These appearances have connected the group with audiences familiar with both established punk acts and newer underground performers.
Sonic Jett Records Release Continues Band’s Independent Music Career
The October 16 release adds another recording to Guerrilla Teens’ catalogue through Sonic Jett Records.
Listeners can access the band’s music through major streaming platforms, while recordings and merchandise are available through its Bandcamp store.
For Drake and Fieldhouse, the EP represents another stage in a songwriting partnership spanning several decades, from Long Beach’s garage-punk circuit to Portland’s independent music community.
With Sympathy for the Decibel, Guerrilla Teens continue developing new material while drawing on the musical traditions that shaped their earlier careers. The release reinforces the band’s ongoing involvement in the independent punk and garage-rock scene.
